Nicole Fröhlich first came to McMaster as an undergraduate visiting researcher from Brazil.
The experience was so positive that after completing her degree, she returned to McMaster for her master’s degree in neuroscience.
“It’s amazing to be back,” she says.
Her master’s research is in finding blood-based biomarkers to better understand the neurobiological underpinnings of bipolar disorder.
“I want to be able to change lives through research.”
Fröhlich shares how finding a supportive community at McMaster — whether it was mentorship or practical help in choosing the right winter gear — is shaping her approach to research.

It was incredible to welcome the 2000 Marauder Football team back to campus on Saturday as we celebrated the 25th anniversary of their historic Yates Cup Championship.
From reconnecting with teammates, coaches, and staff to sharing stories from a legendary season, the night was a reminder of what makes Marauder Football family so special.
A huge thank you to The Phoenix for hosting us and for putting the 2000 Yates Cup Final up on the screens, giving everyone the chance to relive that unforgettable championship moment together.
Thank you to everyone who came out and helped make the night so special. The legacy of the 2000 team continues to inspire, and it was great having you back home.

Researchers at Neopara Materials are transforming waste tires into high-value silicone products widely used in construction
It follows a major scientific breakthrough in the lab of Professor Emeritus Mike Brook when researchers in 2020 developed a way to break down the rubber used in tires
Now, it’s offering a road to a new life for the thousands of used tires that end up in landfills every year 🛞
And through a partnership with @hyundaicanada , the researchers are offering a unique, made-in-Canada solution to a global problem: transforming tire waste into sustainable hockey pucks 🏒
