It’s a miracle to me that the first signs of life after winter are the flowers.
They’re so delicate and ephemeral - cherry blossoms, violets, crocuses, red buds, wisteria, forsythia - and yet, they are incredibly resilient and unabashedly beautiful: soft, vibrant, fragrant, bringing joy and romance.
Many of them carry medicine for the Heart and the Liver. Our love and our anger.
And the Lymph - how it all flows through us and out of us.
These days I feel both my love and my anger so fiercely. And I’m all the more devoted to beauty as the remedy.
I’m devoted to the flowers, the poetry they manifest, and their gentle, resilient, luscious, impermanent existence.
The physical landscape
Is the emotional landscape
Is the spiritual landscape.
All this to say, beginning on Wednesday I’ll be making medicines with my dear so.cozi. We’ll talk about all these things as we work with our hands to make oils, elixirs, and more from fresh spring plants. Let’s cast the beauty spell together. Link in bio 🌸

There’s movement happening:
still snow on the ground, but more sunlight, more birdsong - inklings of Spring.
I was reading about Meteņi, a Latvian holiday marking the mid-point between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox: a time celebrated by visiting loved ones and going sledding!
A time for moving through the last part of Winter, enjoying being outdoors, and allowing it to be invigorating as opposed to oppressive.
Traditionally, it was also a time when the stores of food became scarce, so the foods themselves were more simple, and meals more spare.
Through the Ayurvedic lens - we’re talking about shifting from Vata season to Kapha season. Cold and windy Vata invites grounding, deep nourishment, and a slow steady pace; whereas cool and damp Kapha invites more action, lightness and enlivening activity. So, all this lines up pretty perfectly.
Leaving the stew vibe and entering the broth vibe.
Peeling away some layers to move more freely.
Let’s move and dance together this Wednesday to celebrate.
