Thatâs a wrap on this yearâs Mental Health Awareness Week đ§Ą
Throughout the week, our Logistics Manager, Larisa Capatina visited sites with treats for the teams, helping to encourage everyone to take a moment to consider not only their own mental health, but also the wellbeing of their colleagues.
Leading up to the week the company completed online mental health awareness training for both managers and team members, reinforcing our commitment to creating a positive working environment. Looking ahead, weâre excited to welcome Russ Payne, the Talking Tradesmen to the stage at the Shaftesbury Theatre for what promises to be an inspiring and important talk.
Here at MCD Heritage, we understand the importance of looking after mental health within high-performing teams and continuing to build a culture where people feel supported, valued, and heard.

Weâre excited to share images of the recently completed floor repairs project in the Cast Court at the Victoria and Albert Museum. Originally opened in 1873, the Cast Court displays some of the worldâs most significant works of art, reproduced in plaster, electrotype, photography, and digital media.
The team, overseen by Site Supervisor Seb Sclafani, completed the works in just five days, carefully applying protection to the existing sculpture plinths before repairing areas of the damaged flooring and replacing with a Watco UK Concrex resin compound. Once the repairs were complete, the team applied a Watco epoxy matt coating to seal the floor with a finish in keeping with the fabric of the building.
A fantastic effort from everyone involved - well done team!

Weâre proud to share the successful completion of our latest strip-out and white-box project in Belgravia, London, delivered for Grosvenor as part of our ongoing major framework contract.
Â
The 21-week programme, overseen by Site Supervisor Clinton Biggs, included replacement of the shop front awning, reconstruction of floors with honeycomb brickwork and timber joisting, waterproof rendering, damp investigations, installation of a new ventilation system and complete rewiring and lighting design. As well as installation of new electric panel heaters and solar reflective toughened glass to sash windows. Additional works included scaffolding for external decorations, asphalt works to pavement lights, structural alterations to the staircase and floors, fire exit installation, floor polishing, drylining, redecorations, and external rendering. With around 30 tradespeople and contractors on site, it was a busy project involving careful planning and due consideration given to residents living above the site.
Â
As always with MCD Heritage, sustainability remained our focus, with timber offcuts recycled, all waste tracked with Qualis Flow (Qflow), and the installation of high-performance vacuum glazing with solar reflective properties.
Â
Once again, we were supported by our trusted specialist supply chain, helping us to deliver this complex project: Watkins Cole, Timberwise, Olliewood, MH Civil Constructors, Inc. Fantastic Glass & Glazing, Crystal Sigma, PSS and Knightsbridge Roofing.Â
Â
A fantastic effort from all involved!

Weâre proud to share images from a recent exhibition build at Tate. The exhibition showcases Hurvin Andersons first major show, bringing together over 80 paintings spanning his career. The exhibition is now open until the 23rd of August and is a must see!
Completed within a 14-day programme, the project involved reconfiguring walls and ceilings from the previous exhibition, installing new partitions, a full decoration, and creating a projection space with a light-lock corridor. The team also installed sound panels and carpet finishes.
A standout feature was a bespoke timber structure for a large artwork, fabricated off-site to the artistâs specification and installed in the gallery in a single day. The project required close coordination with specialist trades and partners, including Clockwork Projects London Ltd and Olivers Contracts Ltd.
A great team effort, led by Project Manager Jim Lumber and Site Supervisor Jaime Barry, delivering another high-quality exhibition.
Well done all!

Weâre excited to announce that work has now started at the Shaftesbury Theatre, as part of their ongoing planned refurbishment programme.
Our team, led by Site Manager Ian Fernie and Site Supervisor Clint Biggs has been tasked with the full restoration of the theatreâs stunning dome ceiling, as well as the restoration of the Proscenium arch and statues. The team has also removed and replaced the flooring in the cast changing room corridor and carried out improvements to the front-of-house office space, including a bespoke new entrance that provides staff with their own dedicated access point, allowing them to bypass the auditorium.
The project kicked off with the construction of a complex platform, ingeniously suspended from the ceiling by Unusual Rigging, giving our team safe access to the roof space to carry out the restoration works. Great to be working again with Clemlec Ltd, Olivers Contracts Ltd and Ekotherm Ltd during this impressive build.
We canât wait to share more updates as this incredible project progresses!

We are pleased to announce that works have commenced at a residential property within the grounds of Westminster Abbey. Number 5 Little Cloister is a 17th-century building, set adjacent to a small courtyard to the east of the main cloisters, and was historically used for monastic recuperation near the Abbeyâs infirmary.
The project includes a complete redecoration, installation of new flooring throughout, and new insulation within the loft space. We are also installing a ventilation system to improve overall energy performance. In addition, the team is overseeing the application of Quattro Seal to all windows, carried out by The Energy Savers, to further enhance the propertyâs energy efficiency.
A big thank you to Watkins Cole and Olivers Contracts for their support during this build. The project is being overseen by our site management team, Charlie Falzon and Jim Lumber, and is due for completion in April.

Last month, members of MCD Heritage attended the parliamentary launch of Retrofit or Ruin.Â
The report produced by Grosvenor is a powerful call for planning reform to accelerate the decarbonisation of Englandâs three million listed buildings and properties in conservation areas. As a contractor on the Grosvenor Major Works Framework, we were proud to support and engage with this important initiative. With heritage playing a critical role in the UKâs journey to net zero, it was encouraging to see strong support for change.Â
Attending events like this is vital for MCD Heritage, placing us at the heart of key industry and policy discussions. It allows us to contribute to shaping the future of heritage and sustainability and ensures we remain at the forefront of evolving best practice in the decarbonisation of historic buildings.

Last week, a team of our painters trialled the Graco Evenflow In-Line Pressure Roller as part of our ongoing effort to improve sustainability on site.
The paint spray roller attaches to an airless sprayer, using pump pressure to deliver paint through a hose and directly into a perforated roller core. This removes the need for paint trays and constant dipping, allowing for continuous and even application while back-rolling in a single motion to achieve a professional finish.
The system also significantly reduces paint wastage and spillage on site. By delivering paint directly through the roller, it minimises excess paint, reduces mess, and lowers the amount of unused material that needs to be disposed of.
The trial was a great success, and the team now plans to incorporate this technique into future projects. Not only does it improve efficiency for our teams, but it also supports our commitment to reducing waste and improving our sustainable working practices.
At MCD Heritage, we continuously look for innovative ways to work smarter on site while reducing our environmental impact and maintaining the highest quality finish.

The MCD Heritage team recently completed an exhibition fit out and refurbishment project at the National Portrait Gallery, London, supporting the âLucian Freud: Drawing into Paintingâ exhibition â which includes some work by the artist seen on display for the very first time. The project was led by Charlie Falzon and supported by Site Supervisor Jamie Barry, who coordinated and successfully delivered the busy programme in just 10 days.
The scope of works included reconfiguring the exhibition space, removing the existing exhibition walls and constructing new walls ready for the work to be displayed. The team also carried out a full re-decoration of the gallery, followed by the installation of bespoke wall-mounted showcases to support the exhibition displays. The project was supported with specialist contractors, including HelloWorks and Clockwork Projects London Ltd.
Weâd like to thank the National Portrait Gallery for their support throughout the project. Having full access to the gallery helped us coordinate the works efficiently and ensure deliveries and the build process ran smoothly.
Great work by the team!
