(this gonna be long bear w/ me) about a year ago i got to go to babyfaces studio. embarrassingly didn’t really know who i was meeting at the time, but after
@iamrobstone told me about him, i did a little research and began to sort of understand just how influential this man is. you like r&b? u can probably thank him. I pull up and sit on the couch in his studio, looking up at pics of him and whitney or mariah carey, i’m like shiiiiit. he comes out and rob asks if he wants to hear some music, beginning to pull out his phone. babyface is like, “nah, i need to hear him play.” once again, i’m like oh shiitttt. he hands me a guitar and i begin to play some songs for him. one of the most nerve wracking moments ever hahahah. eventually i finish like 3 songs, and then we just talked about music. i’ll always remember one thing he said, was some of the best advice i ever got, and i live by it - i think anyone in any type of work can appreciate this. he said “you gotta learn to do it all yourself. write it, produce it. you don’t wanna rely on anyone else. find your sound” mannn i listened to that. over this past year i’ve put in a stupid amount of work in getting better at writing, production, mixing, mastering, arranging, etc so i can make these tracks sound fire all on my lonesome if need be. i havent mastered it yet (pun not intended) but best believe i’ll never stop striving...collaboration is amazingggg, but sometimes you gotta create it ALL by yourself to really understand how to create something with others. babyface is the man - needless to say i’ve listened to so much of his work since then. if u don’t know him, check him out. THE goat. anyways thought i’d share this story, was a big moment for me, really was a fundamental moment of change. thx for listening homies...also very excited to share my new music with y’all ❤️
