After almost two decades performing and working at the Johnston Street Fiesta… this year felt different.
For the first time I stepped on that stage solo.
No live band behind me like I usually have — just me and the mic.
Going into this show was a little stressful at first because I had to build a team from scratch.
New backing vocalist, new dancers, new collaborators… and without some of the musicians I usually perform with.
But sometimes those situations open the door to something special.
I had the chance to work with incredibly talented people — some I’ve known for a while and we’d always said one day we should do something together. This festival became that moment.
And I’m grateful for every one of them.
And then there was one moment I’ll never forget.
My daughter came up on stage during the show.
I asked her what she wanted to hear and she said:
“Teddy Swims.”
So that’s how Lose Control made its way into the set.
Having my family in the crowd, sharing that moment on stage… after almost 20 years being part of this festival… that one meant a lot.
