As my new board game is about the Seldom Seen Engine House I thought it was an idea to take myself to actually see the thing in the flesh.
It's pretty cool to be fair. I can see why people think it's haunted. It has an imposing and disconcerting presence, even on a sunny afternoon. It also feels very secluded despite only being a 10 minute walk away from the bright lights of Eckington centre.
These pics will come in handy for designing the visual material, such as the game board and box art. They also make for some Instagram content, hey.

It probably doesn't look it, but this game is pretty much ready to be playtested now. As such I guess I should explain what it is!
This game (as yet untitled, but based on The Seldom Seen Engine House, which is an allegedly haunted landmark in Eckington, North Derbyshire) casts you and your opponent as ghost hunters. The aim is to score more ghost points than your opponent in order to become Best at Ghosts. This is achieved by placing and moving ghost tiles on a board. You have ghost hunting equipment that you can use to get the better of your opponent, but you can't use them too much as they break.
This game will be exhibited at Fronteer Gallery in September as part of a group exhibition for @heritageopendays . The exhibition will also feature work from @sharonborkowskythejourney , @temperancepictures , @weirdderbyshire and @studio.skai .
The game should be in a fully playable state by then, hopefully!

I was going to finish this painting in time for our 'Sun Moon and Stars' show at Fronteer Gallery, then I was going to finish it in time for our 'Squares' show, and now it's FINALLY finished in time for our upcoming 'Affordable Artwork' show. In an effort to establish a connection between Bloc Projects and Fronteer Gallery I have used objects commonly found in each. That kettle is Bloc's kettle, and I do love me a Waterstones Café take away just before I get to Fronteer Gallery!

I've managed to squeeze a painting into our 'Winter Solstice' show at Fronteer Gallery. 'Tanngrisnir and Tanngnjóstr' tells the story of when Thor decided to use that hammer of his to replenish and renew the world. Very symbolic of the solstice, I hope you agree.

Delighted to report that my Untitled Witch Game is nowhere near as broken as I expected it to be, and I had some great conversations about it last week during my play session at Fronteer Gallery.
A bit of refining is now in order, and I'll host another play session soon. I must say I'm rather enjoying the process! It's a bit like preparing for a solo show or something, but with more talking about dice and witches. 🎲🎲🎲

8 years ago I began a 1 month perfume making residency on the ground floor of the craft units at @orchardsquare . Safe to say I've moved up in the world since then, quite literally, as you can now find me co-running @fronteergallery on the 1st floor of the craft units at Orchard Square! 😄
