Yesterday, me and my very special guest Marlon Celestine climbed aboard The Boat Pod for a really special edition of Hope Is Never Silent and disappeared, quite happily, into the Prince universe. Marlon and I go back over 20 years. We’ve worked together, DJ’d together, crossed paths through all sorts of life chapters, and always shared a love of Prince that runs very deep. It had been a while since we’d seen each other properly, and yesterday just felt… important. The last time we were together was at a Prince book signing event, so there was already something beautifully full-circle about this. During the show, I read a short excerpt from the book, and then we sat inside Marlon’s curated Prince playlist, which was such a joy. No obvious, overplayed choices. No lazy “greatest hits” trawl. Just beautifully selected music that opened the door wider, welcoming people who love Prince into the deeper corners of his world without shutting anyone out. And honestly? It got emotional. There were tears. There was a hug. There was sunshine pouring in. There was that very specific kind of magic that only happens when music, memory and friendship all land in the same place at the same time. This show will stay with me for the rest of my life. Thank you, Marlon, for your generosity, your taste, your heart, and your history. And thank you to The Boat Pod for giving us the space to do something this personal, this nerdy, this beautiful, and this full of feeling. April’s show is a special one as we mark 10 years since the passing of Prince. Joining us is DJ and selector Marlon Celestine, one of London’s deepest diggers when it comes to Prince and the wider Minneapolis sound. Marlon and I go way back. We first met working together at Shelly’s Shoes in Covent Garden around 2000, a place that was less a shop and more a meeting point for DJs, creatives and music obsessives. We’ve DJ’d together over the years and stayed connected ever since. Marlon’s sets go far beyond the obvious, exploring the full Paisley Park universe, the artists Prince created, the music he wrote, and the influences that shaped him.
