Cape Coast Castle—and yes, what happened there was truly painful and tragic.
Cape Coast Castle was one of the major sites used during the transatlantic slave trade. For centuries, African men, women, and children were captured, sold, and imprisoned in the castle’s dark dungeons under inhumane conditions. They were kept in overcrowded, filthy rooms with little air, food, or water.
From there, many were forced through what is known as the “Door of No Return,” where they were shipped across the Atlantic to the Americas and Europe as enslaved people. Families were separated, lives were destroyed, and countless people died during captivity or the journey.
Today, the castle stands as a historical site and memorial—a reminder of the cruelty of slavery, but also of the resilience and strength of those who suffered through it. It’s a place people visit to learn, reflect, and honor the memory of those affected. 🇬🇭🇳🇬
