A little bit of rain couldnât get our spirits down today!
Iâm thrilled to officially announce that @buildnow_wr is the official building partner for our once-in-a-generation affordable housing project at 2025 University Ave East.đĄ
Over 1000 affordable and attainable units will soon be built right here in Waterloo. đ˘
What makes this project truly exceptional is the collaboration behind it. With support from all 3 levels of government, non-profit housing providers, private developers and the academic sector, this is the kind of barn raising effort we need to solve the housing crisis.
This landmark initiative will show the rest of Ontarioâand the entire countryâhow we can build the kind of inclusive communities our cities need and deserve.
It was a pleasure to welcome WCDSB students from across Waterloo Region to St. Jeromeâs University College last night.
These young minds will spend today engaged in Model UN discussions, negotiations and learning.
As important as global issues are, I reminded these young leaders that strong local communities and engaged local residents are what and who build strong countries.
Good luck to all of them today and in the future.
Wednesday, these wonderful current and former municipal leaders shared their journey to and around the Council table.
Bottom line: itâs a challenge but one thatâs worth it.
We need more voices and new perspectives in order to make more informed, inclusive and community based decisions.
Thanks especially to Waterloo City Councillor Sandra Hanmer for making time for this important panel.
Thank you Liz Monterio, YWCA KW âWomen Choosing Changeâ for hosting these important discussions.

Saturday, I had the opportunity to listen to young girls aged 8 to 18 pitch their ideas to solve various challenges.
It was inspiring to hear them present with confidence and enthusiasm.
Thanks very much to the volunteers from the local Cameroonian community who developed this program two years ago.
This is a wonderful way to engage youth, to connect them to technology and innovation processes and to help them gain experience in the ideation, development and pitch processes.
Well done to all involved!!

The Brawl at Tapestry Hall was intense!
Congratulations to every community member who dedicated 4 months, 4 times a week to training.
This was no small commitment. It was gruelling, it was inspiring and it has made a huge impact!
$1.5 million raised this year for Waterloo Regional Health Network and Mac Kids.
Well done to the coaches, volunteer mentors, the fights and every sponsor and attendee.
Champs for Charity! Yes indeed.
Last night was an opportunity to celebrate, recognize and thank University of Waterlooâs President Vivek Goel for his tremendous leadership and vision for UW as well as for our community and Canada.
He centred community in his decision making and leadership and I appreciated the various partnership initiatives developed during his term.
Thank you, Vivek. I hope we can continue to work together post your official retirement.
Yesterday, the Ontario Big City Mayors had its first advocacy day at Queenâs Park.
It was a full day talking with Premier Ford and various Ministers and members of the opposition about OBCMâs key priorities: operational funds for supportive housing, mental health, addictions and healthcare funding for people experiencing homelessness and infrastructure projects to enable and support our communities.
It was a pleasure spending time with mayors from across Ontario and collaborating to continue to build the best communities for our residents.
OBCM represents 70% of all Ontario residents and 30% of Canadaâs economic output.
It was a pleasure to continue to bring Waterlooâs voice to these discussions.
There are so many reasons why local politicians have come out to show their support for Bandology and our programs. For Mayor Dorothy McCabe of Waterloo, her favourite thing about Band Camp is that itâs open to everyone!
Find your own reason to love Band Camp by joining us this summer in Kitchener-Waterloo, Halton or Guelph! Find more information at bandology.ca/band-camps.
