A stronger high mix voice doesnât come from pushing harder â it comes from learning how to shape the sound more efficiently.
In this one-on-one session, Kurt works with @Maye5h of @Tzarina.official and @worrymonsterband on strengthening his high mix voice for demanding rock vocals using two key strategies:
1) Improving vocal cord compression/closure
2) Using acoustic shaping through vowel and mouth position
In this exercise, moving between âGOOâ and âGOâ changes the shape of the vocal tract, which influences resonance balance, airflow resistance, and how efficiently the voice coordinates through higher notes.
The narrower âGOOâ shape can help encourage more release and easier upper-range access, while opening toward âGOâ introduces more space, presence, and intensity into the tone. At the same time, the consonant and coordination patterns in the exercise help train the vocal cords to close more efficiently without relying on excess breath pressure or pushing.
Together, these strategies help singers build stronger, more connected high notes while maintaining flexibility and consistency â especially in contemporary rock singing where the voice needs both power and endurance.
