Born in Monterey and rooted in San Diego for over a decade, Ashley’s work celebrates Filipino flavors with a refined modern perspective inspired by both heritage and global influence. Her path into the culinary world was anything but traditional — beginning in journalism, transitioning into interior design, and eventually discovering her passion through pastry and storytelling. After studying culinary arts at Grossmont College and continuing her education in Calabria, Italy, Ashley developed a style that blends intention, creativity, and cultural connection. She first stepped into the industry through fine dining Filipino cuisine before launching One Teaspoon of Yum during the pandemic through local markets and pop-ups in San Diego. What started as a small community-based venture has since expanded into collaborations with chefs and events across the country. Through every creation, Ashley continues to honor Filipino culture while inspiring others to embrace their own path — even when it looks unconventional. 📍Mayari Coffee (Pop-ups around Chula Vista!) ୨୧: Mayari Coffee is a Filipino, Female, & Veteran owned pop-up. The owners, Chaz & Mika, are incredibly kind & welcoming, & you can truly see the passion they have for Mayari. The name “Mayari” is inspired by the moon goddess in Philippine mythology–a symbol of strength, resilience, & light in the darkest of times. All of their coffee beans are sourced directly from the Philippines, supporting small farmers & communities. Their menu features Filipino-inspired specialty coffee drinks, matcha, & even started offering savory options like longganisa & chorizo burritos. Their drinks feel like a true taste of home, inspired by sweet, nostalgic Filipino desserts. Be sure to give them a follow to keep up w/ their future pop-ups!! ⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Ube Latte ($8 + $1 oat) Their Ube Latte is made w/ espresso, choice of milk, house-made ube flavor, & topped w/ ube cold foam & ube drizzle. Now this is an ube latte!! The ube cold foam tastes authentic– not artificial at all. We expected this drink to lean more towards the sweeter side, but wow the espresso flavor really came through! Such a great balance between espresso, milk, ice, & ube flavor! ⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Buko Pandan Latte ($8 + $1 oat) Made w/ espresso, house-made pandan syrup, & topped w/ a coconut cold foam & coconut shreds! The cold foam was coconut heaven & the coconut shreds added a nice texture! This latte tastes exactly like Buko Pandan Salad w/out the jelly. The espresso flavor came through & had such a great balance. Probably our favorite out of the 3 drinks we ordered! ⋆ ˚｡⋆୨୧˚ Turon Latte ($8 + $1 oat) Made w/ espresso, banana/brown sugar syrup, & topped w/ a banana cold foam & caramelized brown sugar. The cold foam had a subtle banana flavor & leaned toward a heavy whip flavor. This latte was sweet just like the dessert & had a strong jackfruit & banana flavor!! The espresso tasted more subtle in this latte, however, it was still good!
