facebook memories showed me i took my first self portraits 15 years ago today. i was 14. Adele’s 19 album was definitely on in the background, playing on my first MacBook laptop. i had broken up with my first girlfriend ever and was also starting to take photography seriously (somewhat in thanks to tumblr),
so i decided to put my feelings into an image with my first dslr camera ever - the canon rebel t3i. they’re a little on the nose lol, they definitely read “im sad” but it’s amazing to see where i started with self portraiture and even image making and where i am now. getting closer to 30 and im so eternally grateful that cameras found me.

WITH MY NEW CAMERA 🎉 my big body benz, no handycam anymoreeee. just getting back in the flow of having a functional cinema camera again. i have so many plans, so many things i wanna do and say as i build my kit. for now im just grateful to be back and have a camera as gorgeous as this. 🩶🖤
stills from visual journal 002. 🩵🪼 it makes me so happy when i have an idea and it comes to life how i see it in my head. i loved the movement of this song (it’s my fav i love all of his songs 😭) and when i would listen it felt like the song was literally the color blue with movement and light. sooo i did my self portraits with a $20 light from Marshall’s and then went to the aquarium at night some days later. i hadn’t been since i was a little girl and it was soooo peaceful, so beautiful. i didn’t’ know that what i filmed there would work like this, i was just shooting but it did and it feels exactly how the song felt to me and i love it. 🥹
