A year and a half ago, Ava described this image to me for her new film. At the time, I was in one of the most painful periods of my life and it’s kind of insane how closely it mirrored what I was feeling.
This image reflects a darkness in me I don’t enjoy facing. But I’ve learned that the more you resist it, the more powerful it becomes.
Today, I’m doing much better. And I see now that darkness is nothing to be ashamed of.
Also I’ve been getting a lot better at color shading :)

Maxwell Rousso is nine elves in a man costume living in Berlin since 2022. We all feel energies our human languages are incapable of describing. Maxwell creates work that attempts to bridge the gap between the material world and the fourth dimension. It channels an anguish that he hopes to validate through his work, so that none of us have to feel alone inside it.

‘MOTHER DAY’ is a proof of concept for a feature film about an emotionally repressed college bro celebrating the best and worst Mother’s Day of his life.
This is NOT a movie to watch with mom.
A few years ago, I was so enraged about everything in my life that I set out to tell the most outrageous and uncomfortable story I possibly could. In collaboration with my old buddy, Matthew Paterson, we developed a sprawling ensemble comedy-drama with the intention of pushing our comfort zones to the limit.
Ultimately, we didn’t end up shooting the full movie. The feature film deserves more time and resources, so this short is a distilled version of the first act that hints at where the chaos can go. Maybe one day you’ll find out.
