I had the immense pleasure of photographing the visual art piece with Director @maxwelladdae for artist (&so many things more) extraordinaire Patrisse Cullors.
Patrisse, Maxwell and I aimed to create a meditative visual experience, immersing the audience within the world of the Orishas and begging to ask the question if they are within us.
Our opening night is tomorrow at the Fowler museum at UCLA. The exhibit will run until June. If you get a chance I urge you to go see the full exhibit. Tickets are also on Eventbrite for tomorrow but running out fast if you want to come. The event is free.
Program: "The House Was Too Small"

The relationship between a director and actor/performer is a intimate dance. It takes me being very vulnerable with them so they can trust me enough to share their vulnerability with me. Here me and @osopepatrisse are filming an upcoming fine art video project in Zihuatanejo, Mexico. Over the course of a decade plus we’ve collaborated on a bunch of art projects together, deepening our own work through the process.
In my upcoming work, I’ll be working with actors on a consistent basis. And I want to remember how open a director must be in order to create something that connects. To the performers and actors who are apart of my journey, thank you for sharing your humanity while requiring me to share mine. That shits dope AF!

My list of short form favorites is not that long, and I’m trying to work on that because it’s a form I’m falling in love with. That being said, this might be my favorite short form project of all time. Textured, stimulating, moody, haunting, brutal, humbling, I could write an essay about this video. This video sinks into my bones like few things have. Creating something like that was a lofty goal for myself but worth the reach.

A little ghost story, a little criminal investigation, set in Dakar, shake it all up and you get a sincere look into grief. The accessibility between the living and the dead was haunting, beautiful, and trippy. To me, that’s what it feels like to grieve.

5+ years of locs completed. Learned a lot. My hair can do anything!!! Maybe tattoo and piercings next? New forms are fun.
