spending a couple of nights in a space hotel finishing new music and other artistic projects to share soon!
might seem random but gives me inspiration seeing earth from this rare perspective
Why I’m releasing music again.
Recently, my life ended a long relationship with not releasing music.
And I’m relieved.
For over twenty-five years — or what felt like it — I devoted myself to a product for which good work is irrelevant, because people can’t stop themselves from not listening to it.
A product that never improves, causes mild embarrassment, and makes me unhappy.
But there was comfort in it. A lot of comfort.
In fact, my entire identity depended on it.
I knew it wasn’t good for me, but I couldn’t stop.
And then, when not releasing music moved its business elsewhere,
I realised: here was my chance to become someone who could sleep at night,
because I know what I’m making doesn’t kill anyone.
At worst, it inconveniences them slightly.
So as of today, I will no longer take on projects that involve not releasing music.
I know it’s going to be hard.
If you’re interested in not releasing music, here’s a list of people who do it well:
everyone.
As for me, I’m releasing music again, because I’m certain my best work is either ahead of me, or already ignored.
Sincerely,
Maxwell Young
