I’m very excited to share this recording of my original fiddle tune, “Cherryhurst Reel”. It was so fun to make music and arrange this tune with the incredible Jacob Warren! Liner notes:
The first two pieces on the album... “Manifestations” and “Tabula Rasa, Suite for Solo Bass”... are intended to evoke the timeless medium of portraiture often found in visual art traditions. By evoking these visual mediums, Winningham uses musical portraits to describe archetypal people that are shared amongst the human experience. The Wanderer and The Mystic portray a mentee/mentor relationship, while The Sentry portrays a vigilant protector. In Tabula Rasa, Birth represents a budding consciousness, while Nocturne and Spring each illustrate caregiving and joyful figures, respectively.
In Acrimony & Ascent, Winningham extends the color palette of the double bass using electronics and the addition of a virtuosic percussion part. The piece depicts a vitriolic debate between to individuals with warring perspectives. These two characters are played by the double bass and @quincy_doenges with his energetic percussion playing.

Another weekend, another recording session 🎵 Only this time it wasn’t for our own album — instead, we recorded a cool piece called Eigengrau that our friend @ancel_fitzgerald wrote for us, which will soon appear on his upcoming album!
