Now and then I get asked why I only use natural light for portraits.
I do it because those unique pockets of light tell a story and highlight a person’s equally unique self. Every session is a little different because the light is always changing, making your headshots as authentic as you are.
In a world of ai headshots and ten year old selfies blending in isn’t a good thing. Having organic photos of yourself in your city should be accessible and that’s why I’m so happy with everyone who’s decided to come out for a shoot.
About halfway through my $60 March NYC headshot promotion, and I wanted to share a few of my very wonderful clients I’ve worked with.
I’ve been lucky enough to provide many of them with their first experience on a formal photoshoot… which if you ask me you’d never guess looking at them.
Which lighting vibe do you prefer: Soft morning glow or that direct golden hour heat? Lmk in the comments 💕
Oh and here’s a little mana to get you though the week +70 ❇️ 🧙♂️

🌶️ Another solid day with the hybrid boys club 🌶️
Our fearless leader @jpc_uk is putting these guys to work and they’re showing up better faster harder stronger each day. Capturing their progress has been an awesome experience.
sometimes I feel like less of a fitness photographer and more of a visual storyteller using my camera as the primary tool.
documenting the journey of a hybrid athlete through photography has been an increasingly huge source of joy for me. Capturing speed movement hard work and determination.
I also love photographing people working out because you really get a glimpse into who they are is a real person. No stage looks just candid moments of real grit and determination.
of course there’s some less than ideal faces and moments that don’t make it to Instagram, but that’s OK that’s for me to handle.
Looking forward to seeing the boys of @hybridboysclub compete at the @hyroxnyc competition.

Starting over in your 30s club.
The video says it all so I’ll keep this brief but if you’re afraid of starting over because you don’t feel like you’re smart enough or good enough, just know you’re not alone. I don’t have all the answers yet, but I do know the best path reveals itself when you shut out all the other noise.
if you’re also taking a chance on yourself this year, just know I’ll be rooting for you from afar. Best of luck, digital traveler.

Lowkey huge into interior furniture now.
I think seeing everyone individual piece and the artists behind them made me appreciate them. make a bunch of uniquely, beautiful brushstrokes together that would come together to create a painting or room.
doing so much event photography in New York City I get exposure to a lot of really great different pieces of art and I feel so lucky to be able to see an experience them from people that are honestly in the same boat as me just trying to make a living doing what they love
Thank you @icff_official for an amazing show! And thank you to the amazing design brands for showing me your work and stories

Just a stroll across the Manhattan bridge at sunset.
Featuring a gentle twilight viewing of the city.
The past few days have been busy working multiple events and shoots a day with same day turn around. I love my job but being a New York photographer is definitely a grind.
Amongst all the shoots and editing I still make time for replenishing my creative spirit shooting parts of the city I love the most, top of the list being be Manhattan bridge.

Thanks for being cute and making Europe the amazing trip of a lifetime.
I know it’s cheesy but honestly I’m basically made of cheese at this point because the people really do make places special and memorable.
Almost everyone featured here is a new friend and made me feel at home when I was far from anything familiar. Simply because they wanted to.
Business is going well but I’m a long ways away from rebuilding my finances so offering myself up as a European portrait photographer is about the best I could do to return the favor.
Ciao for now xx

Barry takes the ferry
@barry_conrad was one of the first clients that reached out to me when I transitioned back from Michigan to New York. In addition to being a world class model he’s exceptionally multitalented actor, singer, podcaster… to name a few.
Being new to the city he wanted to do an nyc lifestyle portrait shoot that doubled as an experience.
Being the budget concierge that I am, I took him on my favorite economy yacht ride in the city… the New York City water taxi. And after some unexpectedly rainy weather the photos turned out pretty sick.
High key the water ferry is top of my affordable things to do in New York list. AND like two people were on it
The art direction for this shoot has helped dictate a lot of my portrait sessions, they feel like a merge of street photography with careful positioned people and intentional light. The result is a organic moment, devoid of creation, but also complete randomness. Set the backdrop of a moody New York day, there was some magic today.
Speaking of magic 🪄 here’s 20 mana for your next ferry toll 🧙♂️

ain’t mad about it
Being a New York City photographer is honestly a walk in the park compared to navigating office politics.
Consistent pay and insurance is important but it’s not okay to let the impossibly fucked up American workforce systems at play let they dictate your life.
I feel insane but I’m happy, im focused and I can’t say I’ve had that in awhile.
The world of New York City portraits and fitness and events is my world for now.

There’s a debate amongst photographers on editing photos.
That editing removes the authenticity of a moment. For some photographers, this works for their artist statement, but I do not accept this as a globally, universal fact of photography.
Often times we photograph things in such a way that do not produce the moment as we see and more importantly, feel it. Milan street photography (featured here) was a great playground for me to capture a new environment and share how it felt.
Shooting at night or doing New York fitness photography requires me to shoot much darker out of the camera so that I have a better quality RAW file to edit.
I fully understand the arguments on both sides, especially considering the bastardization of photography through AI image generation and editing software.
My philosophy is simple editing is like working on a piece of marble thawing out the moment you see in your mind with the image you’re provided. If that editing reaches a point where it no longer accurately represents the moment you have stepped too far into processing your photo in our instead creating a fictional moment.
For me being able to color grade, adjust shadows and remove small distracting elements allows me to share a moment in how it felt to me with my audience.

Capturing @honeydijon was one of the most incredible experiences of my young photography career and cornerstone highlight of this insane European trip that wasn’t supposed to happen.
Honey puts on an incredible show and it was truly a privilege to shoot her and the crowd she brought to life with her music and energy.
I still can’t believe after everything this brought me that I was able to shoot this incredible event produced by @jamesblackagency@thefutureperfect and @volkerhaug
The energy of the crowd was unreal and the exact kind of intimate experience you can only get from a well curated event by incredible hard working people lead by the visionary @adewitt .
Special thanks to @davidsierraaa for teaching me a cool new approach to shooting event photography with flash.
Will happily trade my days in a button up and office for a crop top and a camera for days like this.
This might be the start of my new business venture as a New York City concert photographer 🕺🏻

Shamelessly admitting that there’s still a lot I don’t know, but still a lot I’ve learned.
Especially after shooting New York’s latest indoor golf simulator space @clubhousegolf.nyc
Take all these tips for your interior photography game with a grain of salt🧂

If you wanna be my favorite person, let me know what I’m doing wrong or could be doing more right.
Im not here to pretend im some amazing photographer, im just a guy learning and having a great time doing it. Think of me as another digital peer to learn with if you’re also a New York City photographer learning how to build their small business.
Interiors weren’t on my radar but after my trip to Europe I’ve gotten my feet wet enough to want to dabble, nyc fitness photography, portrait photography and event photography are still my bread and butter.
