I made this complex 3 dimensional gear ball with 90 independently turning gears. Not exactly sure where I’ll go from here, but I’m glad I made it exist!

Introducing “Transmutation”
A 3-dimensional geared sculpture by artist Max Steiner depicting Chris Wink, the founder of Blue Man Group and Wink World at AREA15 (Las Vegas). This piece has been painted by Alex Aliume in several layers - a UV reactive fluorescent layer, and a phosphorescent layer that can be seen in complete darkness.
This extraordinary artwork fuses the precision of mechanical engineering with the biomorphic architecture of Mother Nature. A living symbiosis between the ancient and the present-future, embodied in a multidimensional, transformative form.
A true one-of-a-kind, “TRANSMUTATION” is the result of a unique collaboration between three creators: Chris Wink, Max Steiner, and Alex Aliume. • Commissioned by Chris Wink (founder of Blue Man Group and Wink World). • Max Steiner scanned Wink’s bald, alien-like head, and designed a highly complex kinetic structure - engineered and 3D-printed into a moving, transforming marvel. • Alex Aliume then infused his signature biomorphic style, hand-painting the headpiece not once but twice—first in fluorescent pigments, then again in rare phosphorescent mediums—breathing the lifeforce of organic nature into the engineered form.
The motorized sculpture resides within a blacklight capsule, activating under UV illumination to reveal its phosphorescent soul and transmute human perception to another dimension.
No AI was used in the creation of this work.
