🚀 #quanten #quantentechnologie #munichquantumvalley #maxplanckquantum 📷 @axel_fotografie

*** Scientific Career at MPQ *** Building a career in science and academia is challenging. Nonetheless, many researchers have gone through this process successfully, and became well established in their field afterwards. The Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics is an ideal environment for excellent researchers who aspire to pursue a career in quantum optics – be it in academia or in industry or start-ups. In our latest video production, three of our senior scientists, Dr Dr Mari Carmen Bañuls from the Theory Division, Dr Philipp Preiss from the Many-Body Systems Division, and Dr Dmitrii Kormin from the Laboratory of Attosecond Physics share their own perspectives and opinions on a career in quantum optics and why they think the MPQ is the perfect (starting) place for it. 🤗 ➡️ full video (8:30min): https://lnkd.in/d46UfUHg

❄️🎄Merry Christmas to Everyone from the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics! 🎄❄️ In this very special night sky, one can see snowflakes made not from crystals of ice but from single atoms trapped in optical tweezers of laser light and arranged in a particular fashion - created with love by the Strontium Rydberg laboratory at MPQ, where researchers prepare atoms in configurable patterns for quantum simulation experiments. 🩵

*** PhD Promotion at MPQ *** What is it like to be a PhD student at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics? There are currently over 120 PhDs students employed at our institute across five different areas of research: attosecond physics, laser spectroscopy, quantum many-body physics, quantum dynamics, and quantum theory. For a new video project, two of them, Marta Florido Llinas and Muhammad Thariq, have kindly agreed to let us join them in their regular paths and places at MPQ while they share their own personal opinions and perspectives on what doing a PhD at MPQ means to them and why they chose this place specifically for their studies. Enjoy watching, and if you think MPQ would also be the best fit for your doctoral studies, please visit ➡️/phd for information and contact details. ➡️full video: https://youtu.be/pCiMKXDNZcQ?si=-Zfl6RbE1Y31YzKo

*** Happy International Women's Day🤗 *** What’s it like to be a woman in Quantum Optics today? On this year’s #internationalwomensday , we are excited to share our latest video project with you: Three of our young and aspiring female scientists – Maya Büki, Nathalie Lenke and Suchita Agrawal – take us with them into their life and research at MPQ and share some of their own experiences, backgrounds and perspectives. ➡️ Full Video Portrait: https://lnkd.in/dUPWsmWP A central goal of the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics is the training and education of young talents in physics. To even stronger promote the career of excellent young female researchers, the institute has started a new postdoc program called "Women in Quantum Optics" or "WIQO" in short with special funding and support initiatives. ➡️ About the WIQO program: https://lnkd.in/dGTB6Ucv

Chemistry takes an ultracold turn! Researchers at MPQ realised the first tetratomic, i.e. four-atomic, supermolecules at ultracold temperatures of only 134 nanokelvin. 👏 More info: /ultracold-supermolecules © Christoph Hohmann, MCQST

To celebrate the very special and happy occasion of Ferenc Krausz being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2023, the institute hosted a symposium this week for staff, members, friends and alumni of Ferenc Krausz and the MPQ. Also present this very rare sight of the Nobel Medal and Certificate for everyone to take a close look at these two precious treasures.

Merry Christmas to you all from the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics! 🎄 *in the picture you can see the fluorescence of individual atoms (!) trapped with tightly focused laser beams, arranged in the shape of a reindeer sleigh and imaged using a high-resolution microscope - with best wishes from our Strontium Rydberg Lab @ MPQ 🫶

🥂 another Nobel Prize at MPQ 🥂 Ferenc Krausz, the founder of attosecond physics, yesterday in his Beamline lab at MPQ, shortly after arriving at our institute and about an hour after a certain call from Sweden, so he could start giving the lab tours that were programmed for our Open House Day yesterday at MPQ 🤗 WHAT A DAY! A Nobel Prize announcement whilst having several hundred visitors in house that were absolutely thrilled to meet a freshly made Nobel Prize winner, who first of all took the time to give a public lecture to our visitors explaining the basics of his award-winning and groundbreaking science. 👏 Congratulations Ferenc, and thank you for your profound and relentless dedication and commitment. Now the world finally knows, how important the attosecond is. Ted Hänsch, also Director at MPQ and winner of the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2005, also worked with Ferenc along the way and did not want to miss the chance to express his congratulations, so he directly took the train from Munich to MPQ to join our Open House and Nobel Prize surprise event - what a day 🥹 More about Ferenc and his research: https://lnkd.in/ecnzBA_4 Image credits: Christoph Hohmann, MCQST & Thorsten Naeser, MPQ
