Wild Heart is an experimental short film I made last month (August).
I didn’t really know where I was going for and that was exactly what was great about making it. The story and style kind of developed on the go and opened up some new ideas.

It's been a while since I have posted anything, which is because I have been storyboarding and sketching for our very first animated short movie (whoopwhoop!)
This summer I was asked to design a 3D totem for a big sports company. It would be based on the totem illustrations I have done in the past, but more relevant to the company. I was psyched because this was not only the first big commission based on my personal work, but the totem would also be build as a real statue to be displayed in their store.
The sad part is: it never made it to the store. I really enjoyed working on this weird little totem. I hope you enjoy my sketches and renders. Who knows, maybe one day a totem will see the light of day!

Looking back on the last couple of years I realized I have been doing exactly what my 11-year old me was dreaming about. It was when my dad send me this video when it really hit me how awesome it is to still have the same enthusiasm as back then.
This summer I made a short film called ‘Wild Heart’. The last two pictures are made during the interviews at the cinemas @filmhuisdenhaag and @filmhuislumen
Looking forward I am very excited to keep on creating my own stuff, as well as working together with my talented friends! (I am helping my friend @reinierpeersman next year with his Ultrakort ‘Volle Bak’. A really cute story you should definitely check out)

Hi everyone! My film will screen during the @filmhuislumen DEFF (Nieuw Delfts Talent) en @filmhuisdenhaag ROOTS festival.
Wild Heart is a 2.26 minute long experimental film, made last summer.. The short film Crumble I co-directed in 2023 was 2.15 minutes so as you can see my films are getting longer and longer!
More information about the festival in The Hague will follow soon, but it would be really cool to see you there!

Because I used 2D, 3D and photography techniques, everything needed to be edited in a way to fit the style. I did all of the compositing in After Effects. This reel is meant to show a quick overview of the progress for both the 2D, photography and 3D elements.

Most of the animations and illustrations are made in Procreate, because that way I could switch from sketching to animating without switching to other software!

🪨 CRUMBLE BTS 🪨
Creating the props for Crumble meant crafting rocks and stones as far as the eye can see 👀✨ We ate, slept and breathed everything foam - quite literally too, those little foam bits get stuck in your nose quite easily... We had to pre-cut the island so we could animate the pieces falling off, something our amazing sfx artist @almar86 made unnoticable on screen 🫶 Eileen also created dead tree trunks out of lightweight clay and painted them. There also had to be made small versions of these trees for the island in the wide shots. If you're ever in need of fake rocks and trees, you know who to call!

🪨 CRUMBLE BTS 🪨
After we were finished with the designs for Hector, we sent everything over to @raymon.stopmotion so he could make the puppet. He also needed a textured Hector head in the right size for casting, which Eileen made and went into the box as well (hence the Se7en meme, if you know you know ;)). Raymon made a beautiful puppet with the most perfect tiny hands and shoes, and animating it was a joy! (Except for the big head sometimes but that was obviously our own fault 😬) Raymon even made two versions of the head: one for the scenes with Hector still stuck in the ground, and one for the scenes with his entire body.
