Revival 2025. Another year with mixed conditions but having last year made a good run and with some time to test this year we had a lot of confidence in a good result. Sadly a fluke gearbox issue in qualifying meant we started in P26 but I kept it on the track and made steady progress up to P10 by race’s end for the Madgwick Trophy race. My goal was to bring my A game against the finest field of 1960s sports racers and drivers anywhere in the world and we accomplished that.
Thanks to the whole team at @mirage_engineering & @tomsmith5206 for supporting the car and a fantastic conclusion to my British tour with the Arciero Lotus 23. I’m looking forward to working together more in the future. Thanks again to Mr Fordwater @robertbarrielimited for hosting me during the test days and providing wise advice at the race meeting. I’m very much looking forward to having the 23 back in California on home ground to collect some metal with it in
2026. Thanks to everyone who expressed support both in person and remotely on my adventure - it means the world to me to be able to have the opportunity to race this historic car!
The Guards Trophy race at Brands Hatch unfortunately ended with a DNF for @horatioracing and I while running comfortably second in class in the Arciero 23 due to a minor electrical issue, but we made a whole host of improvements to the car as we prepare for the Goodwood Revival in September. I had a fantastic week in the UK and was blessed to have California weather the whole time! Thanks to Trey Dusek and Robert Barrie for coming to visit at the track and my friends Andy Prill, Philip Basil, and Michael O’Sullivan for their generous hospitality in hosting me. A hearty thanks as well to Tom Smith Racing for a great week with the car and it was a lovely time racing with everyone @theguardstrophy
The 82nd Member’s Meeting at Goodwood was quite a mission. Our whole team had a lengthy journey to get to the starting line with the Arciero Lotus 23 but I think we did the legacy of the car and her legendary drivers proud. @horatioracing / @katushaspeedshop / @iveyengines on the West Coast front got the ball rolling before @tomsmith5206 took over in England to get the car ready for the green flag. And even aside from the success of finishing without any mechanical mishaps on our second race weekend ever we also finished 3rd in class! All in all I’m very proud of that result. Looking forward to the remainder of our English summer with the car in the lead up to the Goodwood Revival main event in the Madgwick Cup. Special thanks to @kylecollins._ for being a fantastic steward of the car and I know he made the whole of @teamdelane proud with their family’s illustrious history at Goodwood Circuit.
The last couple months have had a ton packed in! Two big birthdays for my lovely fiancee Emma (27th) and my Dad Lee (65th), my bachelor party, testing the new Lotus, trying out sprint cars, and surfing! Feeling very grateful going into what will be I know a milestone year for me. Thanks to everyone who has made me smile 🤙🏻
Viva La Baja in The Battlebug. The Mexican 500 was a fantastic race getting in the dirt for the first time in a race. Emma Alderton, my navigator / fianceé, did an awesome job and the whole team of Eric, my Dad, Richard, and Rob & the RAF Co boys did a great job to give us a chance to finish. Unfortunately a last minute break sidelined us but that’s Baja racing!
Before Goodwood, I had the chance to participate in August at the 55th Anniversary Celebration of Formula Ford at the Monterey Historics. In the Skip Barber Cup race, which was a blended grid of Historic and Club FF, I finished 4th behind two @crossflowcup champions and in front of two others. Not a bad showing considering it was only my second time in a FF at Laguna Seca and second time in an FF all year. For my performance I won the Rolex Cup, which as per tradition at the Historics is awarded to the outstanding performance of the group over the course of the race meeting. Last time the award was won by @allamericanracer in his Eagle DGF so score two for team Club Ford at the Historics! Thanks to @katushaspeedshop for an excellent car that ran without fault all weekend.
A huge thanks to the entire team at Historika for their efforts in helping run the “Battlewagen” at the Goodwood Revival last weekend.
With shipping delays the car arrived on the Thursday a week before the Revival when the entire team was at Paul Ricard for the 2 Liter Cup 911 race.
The team installed the rebuilt engine on the Tuesday, got the car on the rolling road on the Wednesday and to Goodwood for Thursday scrutineering.
I was happy to just get around the track during the rain soaked qualifying session Friday. Then on race day I was able to dig in, use that Porsche traction in the greasy conditions and finish 6th overall and 3rd in the under 2 liter class. Not bad for my first time racing in the rain, on skinny low grip Dunlops, and at the notoriously unforgiving Goodwood Circuit. Easily my favorite weekend in a car ever and historic racing at its absolute best.
Massive thanks to the entire team of Nick, Ben, Ian, Piff, James P, and James W at Historika Porsche.
