saw this Max Ernst painting at @nationalgalleriesscot - and lots of things that stopped me in my tracks in galleries and around Edinburgh.
cycles of nature - death - magic - miracles - what shapes ? what endures? when i look back at the pictures i took - they follow a story - it’s not so random - what flickers in the body and catches the eye.
Edinburgh - thoughts of plants and rivers and rocks . saw, galleries - allotments - cemetery’s - rivers - soil - gardens - overgrown and tended.
1. Max Ernst ‘La Joie De Vivre’
2. Nathan Coley ‘There Will Be No Miracles Here’ based on a 17th Century royal proclamation made in a French town, that was a frequent site of miracles .
3. Water Of Leith - beautiful river walk in Dean - walking thinking of the river cutting through the rock over millions of years to create this gorge - then in the 12th C becoming an industrial hub of over 70 mills - of textiles + other industries .
4. Peter Doig ‘Girl In White In Trees’ from the book “Morning Paramin” pairing Doig’s artwork with Derek Walcott’s poems.
5. Allotments by Belford Rd
6. Paul Nash ‘Landscape of the Vernal Equinox’.
7. Dean Cemetery - good dead vibes - so well kept.

accepting some chaotic’ness and play in the studio where paper, glue, and drawing are concerned. As opposed to cloth yarn, embroidery, appliqué, and stitch works which are necessarily slower, weightier and ponder more.
