A few fun BTS grabs from a recent project with @google and @maximumflavor at the NASA Ames hanger in Mountain View, CA. The shoot was on the tarmac at Moffett Field. The FAA waiver was a fun one to pull for this one. When we first reached out to the FAA and told them we wanted to fly drones at the airbase, they replied with, “um. no.” Persistence and a friendly attitude always pays off. 😅
We filmed in one of the most visually striking areas of Google’s first mass timber building — a wide-open space that really showcased the scale of the project. It was an active zone, so we coordinated closely with the crews working around us to keep everything running smoothly.
The space featured a large skylight, which made lighting tricky. To maintain full control over the look of the interview, we diffused and stopped down the skylight and built a lighting setup that gave us the clean, polished feel we were going for — without losing the sense of scale that makes the space special.

Interviews, interviews. When setting up an interview shoot we’re looking for the best angle that’s visually interesting and relevant. The more depth we can create in a shot, the better. When finding a location, avoid conference rooms and tight spaces. Look at the lobby, break areas or other open spaces.
For this setup we used a Aputure 600D shot through a 6x6. We used a solid 6x6 for negative fill to create some contrast. Filmed with a Canon C300MK3.
