It’s good to be back. ⚡️Cloud-to-cloud lightning show under a cycling storm in 📍Goodland, KS. This developing mesocyclone would end up dropping a brief tornado just minutes later. #cowx #tornado #kswx #storm #weather

Winds rolling through Breckenridge after delivering 12” in the last 24 hours. ❄️ Colorado high country is getting a much-needed refill, but the real action is taking place across the central and eastern U.S. Ice storms, blizzards, and even a few tornado warnings. Stay safe out there!

This downburst over 📍 Pawnee National Grasslands brought strong winds, pea-sized hail and plenty of color. #weather #wx #meteorology #storm #stormphotography #hail #naturephotography

🧪🌀Gustnados 101: Nope, not a tornado. Gustnados form when the edge of a storm’s downdraft of cold air meets the surrounding warmer surface air. It’s not uncommon to see these form along a storm’s gust front, and they’re often confused for weak tornadoes. Unlike tornadoes, which are fueled by a storm’s warm and powerful updraft, gustnadoes are fueled by downdrafts, and are not connected to any cloud base. That’s not to say they can’t still get a bit windy, though. 💨

May 23, 📍Akron CO. My first official chase came with highs, lows, and lessons. While I was lucky enough to safely catch one (possibly two) tornadoes on less than stellar video, a wrong turn would take me out of play for the day’s well-documented EF2 Akron tornado. A bruised ego is a small price to pay for a rookie mistake, and a good reminder to study your target road network. 🌪️🌈Broad ground circulation underneath a rainbow quickly tightens into a pronounced vortex over rural Washington County. While initially mistaken for a gustnado, information later shared in an NWS survey suggests the rotation was tornadic. 🌈 🌀Just moments beforehand, dust is kicked up underneath a long-lived, discrete supercell shortly after dropping its third confirmed tornado of the day. 🌪️Exactly one hour earlier, a visually messy but evident EF1 tornado crossed U.S. Highway 6, lightly damaging two grain silos near Messex, CO. #tornado #stormchasing #stormchaser #wx #cowx #extremeweather #twister #cyclone #hail #weather #supercell #coloradonature

Earlier this summer, a series of discrete supercells fired up near 📍North Platte, NE. Within about an hour, these cells quickly merged into a larger system that produced baseball-sized hail, damaging winds, and some remarkable visuals. 1) Remnants of a wall cloud just south of Tryon, NE 2) Sunlight squeaks through just ahead of a hail core near McCook, NE 3) The disembodied remains of a wall cloud float over corn fields. Note the dust kicked up by outflow in the bottom left. 4) The blue hue of a dense hail core puts on a show just south of North Platte, NE. #stormchasing #wx #hail #cowx #stormphotography #tornado #weather
