Hey writer! 👋 I have some bad news for you. It turns out being a writer means writing sometimes. Hear me out. You’ve got a brilliant idea for a book, you’ve told all your friends, made a Pinterest board for inspo, maybe a companion playlist to set the mood. Somehow there’s still no story. Because you haven’t written it yet. Or maybe you’ve started but are struggling to finish. That, writer, is SO NORMAL! Writing is HARD! And sometimes scary. But you’re gonna do it and I’m gonna (hopefully) help. For what it’s worth, I’m a traditionally published author with my third book out later this year and I’ve really been struggling with the issue on the last slide as I dive into writing my fourth. You’re not alone. We’re all on this crazy, masochistic journey of creativity together. Here are a few quick tips on how to get through it and get (and stay) writing! Tell me in the comments about your biggest writing hurdles 👇

Hey writer! 👋 You’ve been busy. So busy you’ve written and polished an entire novel manuscript. First of all, please celebrate with a baked good of your choosing, because that’s huge! Now, feeling ready to take the first step towards getting your book on the shelves? Here’s a quick little guide on what comes next. Anyone familiar with my publishing journey knows I didn’t exactly go about things in the typical order (call me a rebel), but for the most part if you’re looking for a publishing deal, finding an agent will be your next step. Good luck out there, I promise you’ve got this! And if the query trenches get you down, please have a peek at my last Dear Future Author post all about dealing with rejection. #writing #writersofinstagram #bookstagram #author #authorsofinstagram

Hey writer! 👋 What you’ve just read (or skimmed, or briefly considered swiping through before thinking better of it because you’d rather spend your limited free time watching cute possum videos and I respect you deeply for that) are just some of the rejections I received while querying my first book. Well, my first *published* book, anyway. I received even more rejections for the two previous attempts that died a noble death in the query trenches. Because if there’s one thing I can guarantee you about becoming an author, it’s that you will get rejected. A lot. And if there’s another thing I can guarantee you about becoming an author, it’s that those rejections don’t matter. Stay with me here. The thing about art is that it’s inherently subjective. Sure there are certain elements of the craft you’ll need to hone to get anywhere in this (and any other) industry, but the creative part of it? That’s all you, baby! And like your mom told you in kindergarten when you kept trying to make friends with that one kid who ate glue because they seemed so worldly and sophisticated, not everyone’s going to like you. But if you stick with it long enough, you’ll find someone who does. And more importantly, you’ll find someone you like just as much. And you can ride off into the publishing sunset eating glue together. Now, this is not my way of telling you to buck up, champ, and get a thick skin about rejection. They always sting, and that’s okay. What’s less okay if this is the career you really, truly want is letting that sting stop you from putting yourself back out there. Eventually you will open your inbox to someone who’s as excited about your word baby as you are. Just remember that rejection isn’t failure, it’s just the wrong glue eater for you. I was lucky enough to find mine after *years* of no, and now I have two books on the shelves and another two coming out in the next few years. You’re next! (Swipe to the end to see my big YES email!)
