NEW FONT RELEASE: Super Castel by @maxesnee
Narrow proportions, tall x-height and a dark tone: Super Castel draws on the “Goût Hollandois” tradition defined by dramatic vertical tension.
Designer Max Esnée reinterprets these forms for contemporary use with a brutalist deformation, subjecting their flourish and contrast to extreme compression.
“I find the combination of the authoritative, formal look of old serif fonts with the mechanical compression particularly visually striking. I wanted to make my own take on this, (…) take those historical, very fancy and flourished letters, and push them to typographical extremes that they never were meant for.”
Super Castel is available in two widths, 24 styles.

To kick off the new year, I decided to give my website a little makeover.
The previous version dated back to 2022. While I still liked the minimalist direction I had taken, the site didn’t quite reflect the diversity of my work. I needed a platform that could showcase my typography work alongside my art direction and web design projects.
I kept the same dense layout as before, featuring a zoom-on-hover system to provide a quick overview of every project—inspired by YouTube’s video preview feature. However, I’ve enhanced the system to allow for a mix of images and videos, and I added dedicated project pages to better showcase the visuals.

Finally, in next year’s new releases, we will be delighted to present Buvard, designed by Max Esnée. 🖋️ It features an unconventional, bottom-heavy weight distribution. It is inspired by a common characteristic found in Renaissance-era prints: imperfections in the printing process that resulted in certain parts of letters becoming heavier than others.
Despite this added weight giving it a hint of goofiness, Buvard does not renounce its original dignity and retains some of that classical elegance.

After announcing the forthcoming release of Astrolabe, we’re thrilled to present the next typeface in our collection: Baudricourt, designed by Max Esnée. Inspired by the sans-serif faces of the late 19th century, most notably Miller & Richard’s Grotesque No. 1 and H. W. Caslon’s Doric Series, Baudricourt carries forward their spirit while asserting its own voice. Its fluid forms and bold terminations give the family a distinctive expressiveness that sets it apart.

Savate is a humanist sans-serif typeface with reverse contrast. It is Plomb Type’s first release.
It is a complete redraw of the original Savate, first published in 2016 by @collectifwe.ch (Max Esnée and Hadrien Bulliat) through Velvetyne.
It’s available now on Google Fonts.
While this new version stays true to the spirit of the original design, every glyph has been refined to improve rhythm, structure, and overall cohesion. The family has also been significantly expanded, now offering a full palette of styles and expanded language support, including Latin Pan-African, making Savate a versatile tool for a broad range of typographic needs.
