My short “JOCK” is playing in the @nitehawkcinema shorts festival tonight. My first time having a film I directed in a festival! Thanks to everyone who worked on this, my Panasonic Omnimovie VHS camcorder, and iconic director Matt Sterling (the inspiration for this movie).
Behind the scenes of JOCK, filmed this past March with a 1989 VHS camcorder.
The short is about Harry, a college football player struggling to come to terms with romantic feelings for his teammate. The VHS aesthetic is basically how he sees the world — totally blasted with yearning. (Also an excuse to play with a 3am ebay purchase)
SXSW 2025: my first big film festival. Reached ecstatic levels joy shouting at strangers about @ireallylovemyhusbandmovie , watching amazingly weird movies, and diving head first into mutually consented film nerd talk. This must be what having camp friends feels like.
My next film will be made on a camera from 1989 - a Panasonic OmniMovie I bought on eBay, having no idea whether or not it would work. After experimenting with a lot of bits and wires, I took some test footage today, and I’m feeling kinda like I’ve opened up a wormhole: I can feed the signal from a camera manufactured before I was born into an iPad and edit it digitally. The hope is that these bizarre colors and edges can pay homage to diy (🌶️) filmmakers who weren’t afraid to dream about queer love and intimacy.

Just wrapped shooting on my first “real” short: Bride Brain. To cope with the stress I chose to focus on my outfits. And I was blessed with a crew that was willing to dress as if we were going to the wedding in the film. Let’s call it “method directing.”
Many emotional things I could say but for now I’ll leave it at the shoulder pads.
I have my first day of class at film school today. It’s made me feel more like a kid than I’d expected. I woke up at 5am with first day jitters. My mom made me a sign, and we took a picture with my backpack on. I’ll try to keep a wide-eyed kindergarten attitude, but I’d also like to hold onto the non-school perspective I’ve gained after working for 8 years. Most of all, that it’s really difficult as an adult to make space and time for your passions (for me - HORROR MOVIES), but that the effort is worth it.
And thank you @lostingraceland for giving me the courage to wear my @fangoria shirt.
