While the concept of vegetable tanning is rather simple, creating world-renowned leathers for over a hundred years takes dedication, structure, trust and just plain ol’ hard work. We hope these videos provide you all with respect for the time and expertise it takes to produce a consistent product, from an inconsistent material.

Tungsten “Upcycled” Single Horsefront Hides (SHF) were originally Stampede Chromexcel®; a buffed-grain variation of the classic tannage.
These are “upcycled”, meaning we have added a wax finish to the hides, creating a refined and slightly different leather from its original version. These fronts will have natural color variation from hide to hide as shown in the video.

Horween Dark Mahogany Waxed offers a deep-brown tone with a rich, natural look and plenty of character. Vegetable-retanned leather featuring a semi-aniline finish and a waxed, corrected grain that brings out depth, variation, and subtle movement across the hide.
Medium to soft in temper for a nice balance of body and flexibility, making it useful for projects that need some structure without feeling overly stiff. Dark Mahogany is a versatile brown with warmth and depth, making it a strong choice for wallets, bags, pouches, notebook covers, dopp kits, and other everyday carry goods.
The waxed finish helps give the leather a more lived-in look over time while still maintaining a clean overall presentation. Because of the waxed finish and the natural character of the hide, expect some variation in color, grain, and overall appearance from piece to piece. Available on our website in STANDARD & TUMBLED variations.
