The light has gone out. My wife Cat passed at 12:07a on January 10th. Her sisters held her into the great beyond. Always thinking of others first, she didn’t want her kids to witness the moment of her death, to watch the changes come over the body that was hers, to see the final indignities that cancer wrought. She wanted them and us to remember her in the strength of her life. Her last wish was for me to take them to our friends. We had a long day, her close friends and family around. We each had a moment with her. She gave away jewelry to the girls and wolf. She took moments to jot down her cookie recipe so that we have it. So no worries that the best cookies in the world will be lost to time. Just one of the best people. We said our last goodbyes and hugged her one last time. She said to tell everyone she loved them. We lit candles and talked late into the wee hours of the morning. Sharing stories and the amazement of this short journey with our lady. If you’ve got one please light a candle for cat tonight and whisper a benediction in whatever way you feel for her. Perhaps our susurrations will help ease her passage to whatever adventure is next. I’m so glad she’s no longer in pain. Her spirit is free. I will be closing ranks and doing whatever our kids feel they need to process this grief over the next few weeks. So I have no idea where I will be or what we’re doing. It feels like the world should stop. Should hold its breath. But it will turn instead. So I pass on her love to all of you she touched. We love you Cat. To the moon and back and even more. Fly free.
