April 2026 - “You are the oldest you’ve ever been. Did you feel yourself change?” - Wendy Eisenberg
Some months pass like weeks, some like years. In those long months, life happens with such unimaginable velocity that it’s a struggle to even catch your breath. April was one of those months for me. On April 1st, I was stepping on set to direct a new short film. On April 30th I locked picture on the edit. A lot of life happened in between.
Following my new tradition, here’s everything I loved this month. All the movies and the music that got me through the good days and the hard ones. From running 6.5 miles to Slayyyter on a loop, to rewatching Project Hail Mary in IMAX at the end of our month long production period, just because I needed to smile. From feeling my eyes tear up simply THINKING about La La Land (and then choosing to listen to the soundtrack again anyways), to feeling like a kid again watching Hundreds of Beavers for the millionth time. From sleeping on the floor of the edit lab just to get a cut done on time, to learning that I have friends who will hold me when I cry. I lived a lot of life this month. I didn’t love all of it, but I lived it all the same.
I am the oldest I’ve ever been, and for the first time in a while, I am feeling myself change.
The busiest month I’ve had in a long time. 13 days of production so far, and more ahead.
Truly couldn’t be happier than I am making movies with these people 🎬
Oh and also, my favorite movies I watched and albums I listened to in March (less time than normal but still fit in 17 films 🤙)
Realizing I took almost no pictures through February (just so much work and so much sick all month).
But here’s some of the art I enjoyed this month!
If y’all know me, you know I watch a lot of movies and listen to a lot of music. So every month I’m gonna start sharing some of my favorite movies that I watched and music that I listened to over the previous month.
So here is my January in a few photos, films, and albums!
With movies, I fell in love with a classic Bollywood musical, as well as an epic about the lead up to the Algerian revolution, and a stunning new film that just premiered at Sundance.
In music, I went on A Tribe Called Quest kick, accidentally started listening to a 7-hour long ambient album (and ended up really enjoying it), and of course, Heated Rivalry had me listening to Wolf Parade non-stop.
On to February!
Here’s to the best year of my life so far.
Huge changes, steps forward, and a year full of doing things I thought were destined to stay dreams. A year of being surrounded by the most amazing, inspiring people.
The past few years have been rough. I just felt like I was stuck in a rut, like I kept hitting a wall in every aspect of my life. I knew that in 2025 I needed to make a change. So I did.
Getting into my dream school, moving to New York, and making movies for the first time since 2022. Making new friends, trying good food, getting back to the gym, and all together just becoming a better version of myself.
We always say “new year, new me”, but in 2025, it was the first time I ever actually stuck to that. In 2026, I don’t want a “new me”, I just want to keep growing and nurturing the parts of myself that I fell in love with this past year.
So here’s to 2026! Here’s to more new friends, more good food, more time at the gym, and MORE MOVIES 🎥🎞️
(Also OF COURSE the year I leave Toronto is the year they make the world series ⚾️ let’s run it all back for 2026 🏆)
