The Cairns City Lions are celebrating their Dreamtime By the Sea round at Holloway's Beach today. It was an honour to be invited to speak, and a pleasure to catch up with so many familiar faces.

The sun's out, the crowds are here, the stage is jumping and there's a great atmosphere. Bring the family down to the CARMA multicultural festival at Fogarty Park it runs until 9 this evening.

The $2 Billion Local Infrastructure Fund includes $500 Million specifically allocated to the regions: bringing new roads, water supply and utilities for up to 65,000 new homes. That's why I've written to every Mayor across Leichhardt and invited their councils to get involved.

The Albanese Labor Government is investing a further $2 billion in housing enabling infrastructure to address one of the key barriers holding back more housing supply. It’ll mean roads built, pipes in the ground, and up to 65,000 new homes. This investment means more homes in communities like ours and a fair go for first home buyers. We’ll provide this funding to local governments and state utility providers, with $500 million reserved just for regional Australia. We’re seeing real progress, but we know there’s more work to do.

The 2026 Federal Budget includes an additional $166.3 million for the Cairns Western Arterial Road Duplication. Funding for the Cairns Western Arterial Road Duplication is part of the Albanese Labor Government’s $1.356 billion commitment to new and existing projects across Queensland, to ensure projects already underway have the funding they need and to deliver the new projects we’ll need going forward. The project will duplicate the Cairns Western Arterial Road between the Redlynch Connector Road and the Captain Cook Highway. The Albanese Government has committed an additional $166.3 million towards the project, bringing its total commitment to $382.3 million. This additional funding will support the staged delivery of the project, including the construction of Section 1 from Lake Placid Road to Captain Cook Highway ahead of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The total Australian Government commitment to transport infrastructure projects in Queensland is $26.5 billion, delivered through our ten-year infrastructure investment pipeline of over $120 billion. Through this Budget’s nationwide investments in transport and community infrastructure, the Albanese Government is also working to strengthen our critical freight routes and supply chains, boost our sustainability and make our regions and suburbs even greater places to live.

Congratulations to Centacare FNQ who have opened a new space at the Smithfield Shopping Centre today. Centacare provides services that are community driven, easy to access and make a difference in the lives of individuals, families. If you need help with Multicultural Services, Aged Care, Mental Health, NDIS, or just want to pop in for a warm drink and a chat, they're here for you. To date, I've hosted three round-table meetings with local organisations and businesses on how we can provide more youth services and community support to the Northern suburbs of Cairns. It's really great to see Centacare respond to those conversations and engage on a level like this. @centacare_fnq_official @smithfieldshoppingcentre
