This isn’t just politics as usual. We’re in a crisis & need leaders at every level who confront it with urgency. I’m running for the MD House to fight back against Trump’s administration and build an alternative: real workers’ rights, the best schools, & an end to gun violence.

Today, Congressman Jamie Raskin— progressive champion, fierce fighter for our democracy, & personal hero of mine— endorsed this campaign and the District 14 team. Over the years, I’ve been lucky to see Rep. Raskin’s courage up close. When students, parents, and survivors took to the streets to demand an end to gun violence, Rep. Raskin stood with us. After a group of us took part in civil disobedience in the Capitol to protest Trump’s cruel immigration policies, Representative Raskin opened the door of his office to us. He listened, offered guidance, (and helped get our friends out of jail). That’s the kind of leader Representative Raskin is, and it is the model of principled progressive leadership I will work hard to live up to in the House of Delegates.

Thank you to our amazing Comptroller @brookeelierman for organizing a litter cleanup in Fairland Park! Saving our planet for the next generation is going to take all of us: lending a hand to keep our waterways clean & urgently pushing for policy that puts green energy, fast public transit, and corporate accountability ahead of profits for the fossil fuel industry. As Delegate, I’m going to fight with everything I have for that future.

We are now less than three months from election day. If we’re going to win the best schools, the fairest economy, the safest communities from gun violence, & the full use of state power to fight back against this administration— it will take all of us. Send me a DM to get involved in this campaign! Thank you so much to everyone who came out to our day of action on Sunday and to former Councilmember Gabe Albornoz, former School Board Member Jeanette Dixon, and Leaders We Deserve Co-President David Hogg for firing folks up. Let’s get to work!

Immensely honored to have the support of Senator Craig Zucker, Delegate Anne Kaiser, and Delegate Bernice Mireku-North and join them as part of the new District 14 team slate. From my time on the school board to my work today as a labor attorney, I’ve seen firsthand the results the District 14 team delivers for our schools, neighborhoods, and local economy. I’ve long looked up to their leadership and I am ready to fight alongside them for the people of our district. Delegate Pam Queen has set a high standard in this district. I will strive every day to live up to Delegate Queen’s extraordinary record of smart, compassionate, and fearless policymaking. Let’s go win this election & big things for our state!

For our first rally, I wanted to go back to where I first learned the power of education, service, and public institutions: my old elementary school. This community here in District 14— our schools, libraries, fields, small businesses— made me who I am. I am so grateful to everyone who came out to set ourselves on the urgent work we must do together for this community— to fight back against this administration and build a real alternative: the best schools, the safest community, and the fairest economy. Thank you so much to Councilmember Kristin Mink, SMOB Anuva Maloo, civic leader Matt Quinn, and EmpowHered leader Susan Azrin for firing us up. And thank you to our student leaders who made the gathering possible: Amina, Grace, Holi, Milan, Phillip, Prince, Romeesa, Saanvi, Sami, Sid, Vincent, and Will. If you want to get involved in this campaign and in this fight for our future, shoot me a DM!

It is time to hold the gun industry accountable. I am devastated by the last week’s shooting at Wootton High School and heartbroken for the student who was shot. Maryland is a leader in gun violence prevention, but we can do more to prevent these tragedies. As Delegate, I’ll introduce legislation to tax gun companies for each shooting their products enable in Maryland— and put that money directly into survivor services and prevention programs. I want to express my gratitude to the policymakers who’ve been leading the fight for accountability for years, including District 14’s own Delegate Bernice Mireku-North and her work to advance an excise tax on ammo, firearms, and firearm accessories to fund violence intervention. I’m grateful for that leadership and ready to join the fight. I won’t pretend this will be easy. The industry will pour millions into challenging any piece of accountability legislation in court, likely on the grounds of PLCCA, a federal law intended to shield the gun industry from civil liability. But this proposal isn’t to impose civil damages on companies. It’s a tax intended to recoup public costs. PLCAA does not prohibit such taxes. If the companies want to pay lower taxes, they are free to collaborate with policymakers and public health experts to reduce illegal use of their products. We can honor victims, support survivors, and invest in prevention by making the companies profiting from this crisis help pay to stop it.

Rest in peace Renée Good. Rest in peace Alex Pretti. We must prevent the next ICE killing. If Congress can’t act, states and localities must use every tool, every lever, every ounce of power to protect our communities from this terror. In Maryland, I am so grateful for the dozens of policymakers— state delegates, state senators, and county councilmembers— who are leading the way on these pieces of legislation. As Delegate, I will proudly stand alongside them and the advocates in our communities fighting for their passage to protect the people of this state.
