🐾 Wilderdog 🐾
Filmed on @atlaslensco Mercury Series
“From the initial concept for Wilderdog, we always knew we wanted to use iconic California backdrops as a secondary character to the dogs and humans. In order to capture the vastness of the forest, mountains, and coast we felt the wide aspect ratio and character of anamorphic was the way to go.
While on a lens test looking at a variety of anamorphic lenses, I couldn’t help but be impressed by how much the Mercury’s punch above their weight. Literally… These things are light and compact. And that was exactly what we needed. We were going to be hiking in to our locations and needed to be able to carry all of our gear in pretty much one backpack. Also, anyone that has shot with animals knows opportunities are limited when getting the right shot. The Mercury’s kept us nimble and able to operate quickly with a minimal crew. Making sure we didn’t miss key moments as they happened.
Beyond being portable, the Mercury’s create a gorgeous image. Very pleasing, but not over the top flares. And I can’t get enough of the 36mm. The way the edges subtly fall off while keeping the subject sharp.
Looking forward to pulling these out again on the next one.” -@mattjblake

A week ago today this jam and video dropped…
Very grateful to have had the opportunity to shoot Flasher’s “Sideways”.
While this shoot was a massive effort on everyone’s behalf, there is something especially satisfying when you get to have fun at work.
Thank you @taylormulitz and @emmarbaker for trusting me to bring these visuals to life. Also a massive amount of gratitude and respect toward the small, but undeniably talented crew that braved a long dusty day. Without any one of these folks this final product would not have been possible.
And thank you to @rollingstone for featuring our video!

A year ago on July 17 2023, I had the privilege of capturing this recording of Mac Sinise’s “Arctic Circles”.
I only had the chance to know Mac for a few hours, but right away it was clear he was an incredibly talented and gifted musician. Mac was only 33 and had been battling with a rare spinal cancer called Chordoma. Unfortunately, in January of this year, he passed away from his condition. Before he passed, Mac set out to record a full album of the music he had written called Resurrection and Revival. Orchestrated and produced by my good friend Oliver Schnee, “Arctic Circles” was the first track to be recorded for that album. I am honored to have been a part of this beautiful project, shooting/editing the music video of our day at Sunset Sound.
Thank you @oliverschnee and @garysiniseofficial for bringing me on board.
Gary wrote a beautiful article about his son that can be found on his website garysinisefoundation.org
Thank you, Vicky. Thank you for the most heartwarming smile. For all the nuzzles and kisses. I’m eternally grateful for the time we had with you.
Eight years ago, Camille brought Vicky home, the last five of which we spent as a little family. We don’t know what her life was like before or what she had to endure. The PTSD fueled night terrors and unique scar on her back seemed to indicate she had been mistreated and put through hell. But thankfully she found her way to Camille. Vicky was sweet, gentle, and friendly to everyone she met.
Partly heightened by his autism, my younger brother Ryan had developed a severe fear of dogs at a young age. We would literally have to cross the street if we saw one coming our way. Until he met Vicky.. After only one or two visits, her calm and loving demeanor showed Ryan she was no threat at all. Never in my dreams did I think he would pet a dog, let alone take a dog on a walk, but he walked Vicky. They became good friends. I don’t think he would have ever been able to overcome his fears without her.
So many incredible dogs like Vicky are often overlooked. Far too many have to be put down at a young age because of overcrowding in shelters. Dogs that are happy, loving, and can even provide therapy. To anyone looking to bring a dog into their life, please adopt. Look up where your local shelters are located. Get to know the rescues in your area. Even if you’re looking for a specific breed, there are so many that need a home.
Vicky, it’s been almost a week now since you left. This house feels unbelievably quiet and empty without you. I so badly want to believe you’re just snoozing peacefully in the other room. I would give anything to see that little tiny tail wag as Glenn bursts in to wake you up for a walk. You brought joy to so many people and so many dogs.
I love you forever Vicky girl. My favorite land seal with the purest soul.
Thank you for letting me be your adopted dog dad.
A year ago today we had to say goodbye to my grandfather, Harold Baisley. This past April 13th would’ve been his 90th birthday.
Somewhere between the time I was 3 and 6 years old, I remember spending almost every day with my grandfather. He was a contractor building custom homes at the time. Both of my parents were working, so he would take me to all of his various job sites. I remember it being especially exciting to be able to ride shotgun in his truck since it had no backseat. I got to sit next to him and do my best to prop myself up to see the road ahead. At one of his client’s houses they had a small zip line between two large oak trees. He put me on his shoulders so I could just reach the handlebars, then would run along side me flying through the air. When I was 8, he gave my cousin and I our first sip of beer. It was a Bud Light. It was bad (still is). Those early days when he and my grandma would babysit me are some of my most memorable moments as a kid.
In all the time we spent together he told me countless stories. Stories about local history, our family history, his days wrenching on hot rods, his career constructing nuclear power plants and oil refineries. He was a walking encyclopedia of knowledge and experiences. There wasn’t much he couldn’t do or fix.
Now, 25 or so years later, I drive that same truck to my own job sites. It’s a lonelier world without him, but I’m forever grateful for the time we did have. He loved his family so much. I do my best to remember all the knowledge and wisdom he passed down.
Cheers to you Papa. We miss you and we love you.
Always deep in thought... Probably about what brew to order next. This was the first pic I took on my Fujifilm. Seems like an appropriate time to finally post it. Happy birthday bro! One day we’ll all be brewery hopping again. 🍻 🍻 🍻

#tbt to last Friday which was @carpthemanjes 28th birthday. Trying to be a good best friend I gave him a call to wish him happy birthday. As soon as he picked up he said “Hey man I gotta go, we’re in labor!” After that I made a shrill, unidentifiable sound and started to cry a bit.. I’m so happy for you and @monsterela and the little family that you’ve started. I love you both so much and can’t wait to meet Charlie Colter Carpenter.
