“The Lagoon” was about a man whose life’s work was threatened by an oil well a few kilometres away. The well then exploded, sending up a tower of fire a hundred metres high.
Sometimes I think back to that man and his love for his lagoon. I hope he found a way to trust his companions, that he uncovered the reason behind the disappearance of that old drunk, and that he made peace with his inner demons.
Inspired by true events: the Cortemaggiore oil well explosion, December 1950.
