One week ago today, I walked my boy Austin over the rainbow š bridge. After a beautiful morning on the beach š here on the Jersey Shore, he left this world peacefully ā but he will forever and always be by my side.
I was lucky enough to rescue him from
@ruffhouserescue and we shared ten incredible years together.
He ruled the streets of Hellās Kitchen as a true city boy ā chasing squirrels in Central Park, strolling the Hudson River, and playing with his friends every night. We explored far and wide: running through meadows and hiking mountains in Vermont, swimming in Provincetown Bay, ferrying to Marthaās Vineyard, and wandering through the beautiful Hudson Valley. He swam in pools from Merion Station to Chestnut Hill to Princeton to Pleasant Valley. He spent years beneath azaleas, rolling in the grass, jumping in the snow, and guarding our home from the porch in Narberth, PA. And along the way, he collected an amazing circle of humans who loved him, too.
For the last year and a half, we were lucky enough to call Asbury Park home ā what many would call doggie heaven on earth. He ran miles on the sand, swam in the ocean, walked the boardwalk, made new friends at Dog Beach, and soaked up the sun and salt air everywhere we went. There was truly no better place for him to spend his final months.
My heart may be aching for a while, but Iām so grateful to have loved ā and been loved so unconditionally by ā such a beautiful soul. Itās an unbreakable bond Iāll carry for all my days.
I love you, my boy.
Run free. Swim free. Forever. š¾ā¤ļøš
