The hatred of the 996 in all of its forms has confused me for a long time. For me, this period of Porsche was exciting and laced with iconic cars and race results. From the GT1 to the first gen 996 GT3, GT3R, GT3RS and GT3 RSR, as a race fan, these cars were inspirational. Competing in Porsche club events in the mid 2000’s, the quickest cars were brand new and they were 996’s. These were the car to have and nobody gave a crap about the headlights. The 996 has always held a place in my heart and to me is the modern 911 that I have always lusted after. Carrera Cup and the popularity of GT3’s started with the 996. I see most hate coming from younger people and new Porsche fans that didn’t experience the 996 as an icon in its prime.

What’s going with all the social media posts that only discuss the value of (especially) Porsche’s. Is it me or is this THE most important consideration when buying or owning a Porsche. I remember 25 years ago on the forums, not one person mentioned or cared about what the cars were worth or what they could be worth. I dreamt of this Irish green 911 as a kid and was fortunate enough to make it mine. Everyone back then was passionate and enjoyed the cars for what they were. I know there’s collectors that think about future values and there has always been that, but right now it’s getting out of hand. IG posts of people telling you which colour to buy, which model will make the most money, podcasts where this is the main topic. I’m fortunate enough to have friends that love these cars for the right reasons. I’m hoping it’s just not people trying to be influencers but it’s seems more than that..
