The outdoor living spaces at the Owl Creek Residence are designed in thoughtful dialogue with the surrounding landscape.
An elevated hot tub creates a private retreat, positioned to take in the lush greenery at its peak. From the patio terrace to the garden paths, each element is thoughtfully integrated to feel both intentional and effortless, shaping spaces that invite connection and ease.
In the warmer months, these spaces come to life, made for slow mornings, long evenings, and time spent outdoors.
Some of the most important design decisions happen before a single finish is chosen.
At our Meadowood project, we reoriented the staircase entirely — a significant structural and engineering undertaking, and one of the defining moves of the renovation. It's the kind of decision that changes everything that follows: the flow of the floor plan, the way you feel when you enter the house and move between floors, the way the home is experienced every day.
We're not intimidated by that scope. Early in any project, it's often the structural shifts that matter most. Get those right, and the rest of the design has something real to build from.
Proof that a smaller footprint doesn’t ask for less — it asks for better.
In a smaller space, every decision is an edit. Clean lines and considered proportions replace the noise of excess. What remains is clarity: form that feels inevitable, detail that feels resolved.
This West End condo was a full renovation, floor plan reimagined, every room reconsidered. The result is a home that lives larger than its square footage and feels exactly like itself.
A continued collaboration, years in the making.
Seven years after their Houston home, we’re working with the same family again, this time on their Aspen retreat.
Now mid-transformation, the vision is taking shape, designed around how they live, and how this home will be experienced over time.
Located in Aspen’s downtown core, this multi-level unit is undergoing a complete transformation. We’re mid-construction now, but the vision is clear: reworked layout, expanded living spaces, and a plan that makes every square foot count.

The dining room at Black Birch Residence is all about flow—of light, of materials, and of the river just beyond its walls. The @ochreochregallery Seed Cloud chandelier takes center stage, its hand-blown glass droplets echoing the movement of water. Beneath it, the reclaimed barnwood wall, pulled straight from the home’s exterior, grounds the space in natural texture, seamlessly bridging the indoors and out.
With floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Roaring Fork River, every element in this room feels intentional—designed to bring the outside in and make the landscape part of the home.
Smuggler Residence is all about honoring history while elevating function—and that vision carries through the entire home.
In the primary bath, a full reconfiguration allowed us to take advantage of the dramatic peaked ceilings, bringing in more light and creating a true retreat. A glass shower, sculptural vessel sinks, and exposed plumbing strike the perfect balance between Victorian charm and modern refinement.
And while the powder bath may be small, the impact is anything but. A wall-mounted stone sink keeps the space feeling open, while full length mirror depth and warmth.

Indoor and outdoor living, seamlessly intertwined. At the Starwood Residence, expansive glass walls and a striking pivot door erase the boundary between home and landscape.
In collaboration with @ccyarchitects , the architecture and interiors work together to invite the surrounding Aspen beauty inside, with natural materials and tones flowing effortlessly from exterior to interior. A space designed for connection—both to nature and to home.
A living space designed with intention—where every detail balances sophistication with everyday ease.
For her own home, Matter Interiors principal Noelle Hernandez curated a space that welcomes both lively gatherings and quiet moments. A carefully considered art collection—featuring works by Fritz Scholder, Kenneth Snelson, and Mathieu Nab—sets the tone, complemented by vintage Le Corbusier seating and a custom Holly Hunt rug. Thoughtful placement and lighting ensure the art remains a focal point, while the layout allows for effortless entertaining and a worry-free environment for grandchildren to explore.
A reflection of Matter’s approach—design that is as purposeful as it is beautiful.
Every element in the Roaring Fork Road Residence primary bathroom was designed with intention, tailored to the homeowners’ daily rituals. Custom storage—precisely sized to their products—keeps essentials within reach while preserving a clean, cohesive look. Built-in outlets inside the medicine cabinets ensure electric toothbrushes and shavers stay charged but out of sight. A steam shower with a bench offers a restorative retreat after skiing, while the freestanding tub, contoured in stone, invites relaxation.
Thoughtful details that transform routine into ritual—that’s the Matter approach. Learn more about our design philosophy at the link in bio.
From a humble miner’s cabin to a refined Victorian retreat, Smuggler Residence is a home that bridges past and present.
Originally built in the late 1800s, this historic Aspen cabin was thoughtfully reimagined to honor its roots while embracing modern living. While key architectural elements and the exterior proportions maintain a connection to the past, much of the home was reconfigured to create a more open, functional layout. Inside, a soft, tone-on-tone palette, whitewashed pine millwork, and carefully selected materials bring a fresh, contemporary feel.
By respecting the home’s history while rethinking it for today, the design allows the past and future to coexist seamlessly. Swipe to see the transformation.
Living in Aspen, we know a thing or two about the importance of a fireplace—not just for warmth, but as an anchor for the entire space.
From textured stone to smooth plaster and bold dark paneling, each fireplace wall is designed to ground the room while complementing its surroundings. Some blend seamlessly into the architecture, while others create contrast for a striking focal point. The right materials, scale, and placement make all the difference—swipe to see how each space takes on its own personality.
