This year at @lakecomodesignfestival , we respond to the theme Fragments — challenging uniformity and celebrating the poetic potential of the fragment as a foundation for new forms of expression.
This collaboration explores fragmentation as transformation—combining Oyster[Crete]® with reclaimed metal to create tactile objects rooted in material memory. Together, @atelier.wama and Matter Forms present a collection that highlights the beauty of imperfection, resilience, and the enduring aesthetic features of reclaimed materials that are often overlooked.

Oyster[Crete]®: Metamorphosis by Matter Forms
@matter.forms
Oyster[Crete]® is a bio-alternative to traditional concrete made from recycled oyster shells. The tray is crafted from locally discarded oyster shells sourced from seafood restaurants in East London, the tray embraces circularity from conception to materiality. More than just a functional object, the Oyster[Crete]® tray subtly reflects its origins, embodying the rock pools where the material can be found in nature.

Inspired by natural typologies, the work reinterprets everyday forms through unfinished contours and layered textures. Traces of erosion, sediment, and time remain visible, honouring each material’s origin while preserving its inherent character. By working directly with their physical properties, the design resists industrial uniformity, allowing every outcome to remain singular and irreproducible.
