Photo Tip: A gray day can still deliver a stunning sunset.
We had full cloud cover at Hardy Creek, but the sun peaked through just for a moment.
The last 2-3 minutes of a sunset’s final glow have become my ideal time to shoot.
Underexpose by half to a full stop and adjust the shadows to properly balance your subject with the scenery.
These dogs are survivors: rehabbed & ready for adoption🐶
Putting a spotlight on the partnership between @marivalresorts and the rescue group @adogsnewlife was a highlight of our time at @marivaldistinct in Nuevo Nayarit.
I timed my visit for one of the adoption events Marival regularly hosts on their properties 🤗
After meeting Franklin, Manguito, and Lucy, I can see how dozens of guests have fallen in love and adopted dogs on-site, or volunteered as “flight angels” to escort the pups to their new homes in the U.S. and Canada.

Manguito already has a new home near Vancouver, and Lucy’s adoption is pending!

I’m putting together my Detours posts from our stay in Riviera Nayarit at @marivaldistinct , surrounded by a few of my favorite things:
🐾 Chai, a senior rescue dog who “works” in the lobby desk, welcoming guests.
🌅 Spectacular sunsets, which distracted me from sea glass hunting.
🚲 Bike rides to Bucerías, a town up the coast (for coffee, drinks, and tacos).
🍷 Wine tasting (with generous pours) at Brunello Wine Bar.
I get a lot of questions about multi-generational & family group travel, so I wanted to check out Marival’s options, north of Puerto Vallarta, since the suites are huge: 1,600sf to start at Distinct!
