Move well. Enjoy yourself. Don’t dig too deep.
That’s what I wanted from this weekend’s Northern Traverse. 8 months after surgery, it would be my longest activity by a long stretch.
The FKT was definitely on the cards, but not at cost of destroying myself in the process. I think Colin had similar goals.
5:18 start at Sentinel Peak, sunrise at Mont Aux Sources. From there we moved consistently across a frozen escarpment. And despite a bit of mist, the weather was perfect. One shepherd and only one semi-grumpy dog.
The KMs ticked over, and my body felt great. So at Mlambonja Pass I decided to give it a push and go for the FKT.
That pass took a lot longer than expected, but I arrived at the hotel with 20min to spare. And with a bit of intention I reckon there’s plenty more to shave off.
The real win was moving for over 9 hours without catastrophic failure. Rest, recover, and focus on what’s next.
Huge thanks to @miketredway and Nicole for your hospitality.

Judge’s comment on ART DIRECTION:
“The Art Direction does its job quietly and effectively. The environment feels considered without drawing unnecessary attention to itself, which, in a performance-led commercial, is precisely what is required.
The colour palette is warm and inviting, complementing the tone of the piece without competing with it. Set dressing feels lived in and believable, providing an authentic backdrop that allows the performance the space it needs to breathe.
There is a understated competence here that deserves acknowledgement, a foundation that supports the storytelling without ever getting in the way of it.”

Judge’s comment on DIRECTION:
“These spots are so charming. There’s a noticeable attention to detail throughout. I love how they champion South African characters so fearlessly; big performances with wall to wall nuances punctuated by an endearing voice over. Just lovely. I was smiling from beginning to end.”

Plenty of emotions not to racing at @ultratraildrakensberg this weekend. Every part of me wanted to be out there battling through the new 100 mile course.
But stoked to have been there nonetheless, shooting a dream brief for @rmb_cib 🎥
Managed a few quality runs too, (often with camera in hand) and the fitness and conditioning is definitely feeling good.
Thanks for the shot @slam_clark@adidasza@carbon_endurance@precisionfandh@pillarperformance
We’ve made so many great memories in the Cederberg.
To spend a weekend rehabilitating trails after a recent fire will one of them.
A huge group effort, to lend this landscape a little helping hand in getting back to her former glory.
Thank you for making it happen @capenature@loveourtrails@sustainableceder
2026…So far, so good.
Riding, running, and shooting some rad projects. Plus some quality down time in the mix too.
Trying to find a sustainable balance between work, life and training is a constant puzzle.
It’s so easy for me to over-index in one direction, completely neglecting the rest. Particularly now, as my injury feels like it’s behind me, and that competitive itch comes back.
If there’s one thing 2025 taught me, it’s patience. ⛰️
