Immer wenn ich durch Südostasien reise – durch Thailand, die Philippinen oder andere Orte – trifft mich diese Erkenntnis mit voller Wucht: wie unfassbar privilegiert wir Europäer eigentlich sind. Während viele Menschen dort mit so viel weniger auskommen müssen, begegnen sie dem Leben oft mit einer Leichtigkeit, einer Herzlichkeit, die mich beschämt. Und dann denke ich an uns – wie schnell wir uns beklagen, wie selbstverständlich wir all das nehmen, was andere sich kaum vorstellen können.
Es fühlt sich widersprüchlich an, fast schmerzhaft paradox: Wir haben so viel – und fühlen uns doch so oft, als wäre es nicht genug. Vielleicht ist es genau dieser Überfluss, der uns den Blick für das Wesentliche verstellt. Und vielleicht liegt die eigentliche Erkenntnis nicht darin, wie gut es uns geht – sondern darin, wie sehr wir verlernt haben, es zu spüren.
