@sushidokoro_miyama Part 1: Long over due post from august 2024. I have been a huge fan and admirer of @hiro3stones since meeting him during covid. So naturally i was extremely excited about him finally helming his own sushiya…we have chatted many times of his concepts and approach to the meal of sushi. Im extremely unqualified to talk, but loved to listen! Especially about his goal of bringing the things he has learned throughout his storied career to shape a meal that is uniquely his own. In a era of LA sushi that can seem extremely banal, i feel like i can pretty much call each dish/morsel, this dinner was refreshing different. I wasnt even suppose to be here this night cause my plan was to go for my birthday in a month, but as one knows @yamatomato1954 was very persistent and got me in for basically the last seating of their opening week. I wrote way too much, need to keep this way shorter…two types of shari….light pickling, and that super sweet stewed scallop…sir thank you for putting in so much effort Oh and can never get enough of the mozuku and that big ass oyster!

The kitties are a couple of super nosey nellies…they take after me 😂. I havent been posting lately…need to finish off the last 3 dinners of 2024…not much going on this year. 2025 so far has just been a struggle to survive, sparse work and a bleak outlook. Im one of the lucky few who has been able to keep their home…for now. 😬😬 One day i hope to beable to see some old friends at the counter…for now, let me know if yall want to go for some fantastic cheap eats! 😉

@sushi.shunji Part 4: This was a sake event afterall, so here’s the sake! Nichi Nichi was given out as an apertif, served in a special porcelain sake cup…we had it side by side with a glass and the flavors definitely opened up with the sake cup. I dont understand why but the sake out of the porcelain was more vibrant and distinct. Thanks to @ayapan0528 and @yuki_inkimono for selecting the ubusuna to pair with the otsumami, it held up well with just about everything! 🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️ And under @missysushij suggestion i got the special “Our Field” Nichi Nichi collab with the chef. Its crazy cause on its own the sake was alittle underwhelming…but with food, either salty, fatty or sugary. It really exploded with flavor.😆

@sushi.shunji Part 3: Last bites from this extraordinary lunch! On the theme of over the top chef added shari and more aka uni on top of the abalone liver sauce! 😱 Loved the abalone itself too!….my doctor is probably mad at me 😅 And i always love a good wrap up futomaki to finish! Fun way to revisit what we just had in a single bite! Funny how the abalone looks like the avocado in a california roll 🤣.

@sushi.shunji Part 2: It’s kinda nice that i posted this 6 months after the actual meal….im all giddy from seeing the camera roll and reminiscing about all the fun new things i got to try. Like the Aka Uni roll….probably the most over the top thing i are that day…yea its just uni, but its uni that ive rarely had (dont really go to japan during the summer 😅) And what a generous serving it was! This uni was marinated (dont remember how though 🤷🏻‍♂️) and completely enveloped my mouth…such sweetness and richness…i think i cried. Also the trout roe was new to me as well, this was probably the more interesting neta i had that day…i thought it would be softer, but it wasnt and had a very strong taste.🤤

@sushi.shunji Part 1: This Pop-up @thebrotherssushism came by way of a @missysushij (thank you for the invite! 🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️🙇🏻‍♂️) I came here for a lavious lunch with @nicolesuganuma ….this was really a treat for myself as i worked almost non stop all year. No time for dinners 😭 Opening otsumamis were all a major hits…with the super sweet corn chanwanmushi, to the insane ebi/aka uni handroll(?) and definitely cant forget the shirasu with ume 🤤 I loved them all, but that maguro nitsuke probably stole it for me. Insane texture…super subtle seasoning in taste…it blew me away while pairing it with both sakes that we were having. And yes….i did drop some sake in the sauce to sip on 🫣 Oh and PICKLES!!!!! I definitely asked for seconds 😁

Ramen pick ups are just an excuse to drive all the way down to have @kashiwaramen_oc This particular trip at the end of may found some very warm weather🥵, so i had the curry mazemen….and boy was that a mistake. That karaage was so fucking good!!!! 😆 I was tempted to order more fried chicken and another beer! But the aburi rice to finish off all the extra bits of meat/curry filled me up! 🫣

@sushi_kisen Part 1: Impromptu dinner date on may 2nd, lead us back to this crowd pleaser.🥰 First time to be served by @masa_singing_sushi_chef and he was very fun, friendly and just delightful! He also introduce me to a lovely japanese couple next to us that loves alot of the same shojo anime! 😆 Not too many dishes that night…but lots of nigiri! 🙌🏼 Faves from this night were definitely the iwashi, mirugai, but i love alot of the white and shiny fishes…more yet to come! 🤗

The best part of a @jimmysugi bento is all the shit he tells me about how bad my photos are (i argue most restaurant has bad lighting 🤣). But alas i love it and him too. This was a early spring bento box…and it was once again a stunner…this format with variety and subtlety is unmatched here in LA.
