With sadness a veteran of the WW2 arctic convoys has passed away at the age of 98 peacefully surrounded by his family. Raymond Hill of Bewdley, Worcestershire was a young man when he joined the Royal Navy and embarked upon one of the most tremendous and dangerous operation of the war. He was a seaman on several ships during his service.
I have known Ray since I was five years old, he was my best friend’s father and I liked him very, very much. A very brave and humble man. He kept his sense of humour till the end. Stand easy sailor. 😢
