10 YEARS - A DRONE OPERA
This week marks 10 years since the live performances of A DRONE OPERA at the Meat Market in Melbourne presented by @experimenta_ and @artshouse (the short film and 3 channel installations came later in 2019)
//
A DRONE OPERA is one of the great joys of my career and still the most fun I've had on a project. A huge thank you to the village that came together to create this project, I'm so very proud of the work we made together...
A VERY special thank you to Jonathan Parsons who commissioned the project, protected it throughout the process and more than anyone is the reason this work exists. 🙏 Jono
A DRONE OPERA is dedicated to the memory of its composer and librettist Susan Frykberg who left us too soon. RIP Susan xxx

STUDY TIP from Daughter #1 @lola_sleeth
//
Use beat of the microwave to keep the blood pumping while eating while heating during a writing break.
//
Pro tip = film it
To mark joining the Film program at Columbia University @columbiafilm this week, a shout out to my favourite film: BEAU TRAVAIL (1999) directed by the mighty @clairedenis6 and featuring a mesmerising performance by Denis Lavant. The (improvised) final dance scene is one of the most moving and cinematic endings in film.
Since I first saw this film on its release (RIP Lumiere Cinema!), it has been a total joy and a clinic on a number of levels. BEAU TRAVAIL is my favourite, not because it's the film the I watch most often or flop in front of the couch late at night. But it's the one that means the most to me as an artist. It has been the most useful. From a literary adaption - loosely from Melville's Billy Budd (1924) - that is photographic with a visual drama that retains the story’s emotional core to the abstraction and choreographic beauty of the movement/exercises.
A real gift...🙏

Caught up with the amazing @claireolivergallery and Ian from the gallery this week and reminded me how long and strong our collaboration has been over the years. This work is still one of my favourites and realise the faith it took for the gallery to trust me present such an ambitious project early in our relationship.
