An exciting (yet bittersweet) announcement - the time has come where I will be moving on from my role at Shaw and Smith and shifting my focus full-time to my own project, Praeter Wine.
The last four years as Senior Winemaker across all four brands under the Shaw and Smith stable has been an incredible and humbling experience. To say I've learnt a lot would be an understatement, but the ability to work with world-class fruit, amazing people and an unerring commitment to quality has been unbelievable.
@praeterwine has always been a passion project for me, focussed particularly on Nebbiolo in both Australia and Italy. But new vineyard opportunities in Adelaide and surrounds now mean that I can take this one step further - expanding varieties to include Chardonnay, Savagnin & Pinot Noir, and getting back on the tools in the vineyard.
Not quite goodbye yet, but it's been a special time, with more than a few special wines ππ

The culmination of 40 months of patience and biological processes.
Bottling any wine is always a special moment, but this one in particular is one of the most singular I have been lucky enough to be a part of.
Savagnin from the Fleurieu Peninsula, aged under flor for 40 months. No topping, no manipulation. Bottled as an exceptional single barrel release.
A living ecosystem in a barrel, always evolving. Very exciting to be able to capture this snapshot in time.
It's been a busy time with a compressed vintage of consistently high quality fruit. But as we get to the tail end it's a lovely moment to take stock.
Tolpuddle Vineyard has had a cracker of season, and the Pinot concentrated and alive. Captured here with a special little parcel of 100% whole bunch. Looking forward to watching its evolution in the coming days.
With primary ferments finishing around the winery, time to carve of a few barrels for our Flor project...
We're expanding it a little this year. Natural acidities are amazing, should be an exciting batch to watch.
Always love finding another Pinot lover in our midst.
Awesome few days picking @tolpuddlevineyard . Fruit looking spectacular after a wet start to the season but a lovely run into harvest.
Now back to the winery to do something with it π
First of the 2022 Tolpuddle wines being tucked away today.
A wet spring and a long, slow ripening period has produced wines of immense elegance.
Always exciting putting a wine to bottle to close this chapter and wait for the rest of its story to unfold.
