At Palace Privé, even the finest details reigned supreme.
Thanks to HH Maharani Priyadarshini Raje Scindia, the Jai Vilas Palace, Gwalior and Robb Report India, this craftsmanship wove itself into the second #RRExperience for Matsya in the most considered ways - from a hand-stitched textile map of Madhya Pradesh anchoring the dining backdrop, to a bespoke constellation of stars, discerning guests, and celebrated personalities.

Roots & Renaissance
The spririt of Madhya Pradesh, a Matsya vision.
Roots & Renaissance began as a heartfelt tribute to Gwalior, the Jai Vilas Palace, and the enduring spirit of Madhya Pradesh. Our vision was to weave together heritage craft, palatial architecture, and textile ideology onto a single, cohesive canvas. We began with two core elements. First, we mapped the geography of Madhya Pradesh using an intricate collage of upcycled “Matsya” leftovers and sample swatches. By integrating fragments of Chanderi sarees, we demonstrated how textile waste can be elevated into fine art when approached with intention. This map rests upon a second layer: a bed of vintage gold tissue, also hand-woven in Chanderi. Then to the craft, we used palatial zardozi to create MP’s flora and fauna along with signature Matsya crafts using kachi dori and brass hardware depicting the Palace itself, the Stupa and creatures of the wild. The canvas was then mounted on a teal silk velvet to give it structure with an age old technique of Zari Jhalar created in-house on the edge of the artwork. My wish is that this piece, while created with sheer madness of not knowing what the final outcome may look like, carries the heart and soul of Matsya, and an honest tribute to the heritage of MP, the Majesty of The Gwalior Palace and brilliance of Indian Craftsmanship.
