Gamifying a workday can really help push projects forward, especially when you hit those unforeseen setbacks. 👾 But, we've just received the new PlasTell Handheld Scanner from @matohascience - which really feels like a massive level up. It’s super compact, lightweight, and small enough to clip onto your belt for easy access as part of your everyday carry around the workshop (and for looking rad). Unlike most NIR scanners, this little beauty can identify plastic types in seconds with just one click. It’s so easy to use, and over time it’s going to save us hours, if not days, of sorting. Plus it's also calibrated and ready to go straight out of the box too, with no WiFi required - so, another win there. Honestly, this feels like one of those tools that quickly becomes essential in the workshop. So, use code BrothersMake10 over on the Matoha website for 10% off any of their plastic scanners. Lease options are also available! #plasticrecycling #brothersmake #workshoptools #matoha #plastell

Pickleball is booming… and so is the pile of broken balls. We were surprised to find they’re not all made from the same plastic, so we can’t just throw them straight into the granulator and get recycling. That’s where our new toy comes in. This is the Plastell from @matohascience It helps us identify plastics by scanning, so we can sort each ball by type and keep everything clean and consistent before recycling. More control, better material, and better products for our pals at @wearecrackd #recycledplastic #plasticrecycling #circulardesign #materialinnovation #pickleball

We still touch the same garment 5–6 times in textile sorting. Pick it up. Check it. Move it. Photograph it. List it. Move it again. And then wonder why margins are tight. This isn’t a people problem. It’s a system problem. Sorting hasn’t really evolved — just scaled. So we built S-Bench around one idea: Make the decision the first time you touch the item. Material. Type. Colour. Condition. Captured instantly. Less handling. Faster throughput. Better resale. Cleaner recycling. Already sold out until September. First US customer live. More going in now. If you’re dealing with second-hand clothing, returns, or textile waste — this changes things. #textilesorting #textilerecycling #circularfashion #circulareconomy #sustainability #fashiontech #recommerce #secondhandfashion #resale #returnsmanagement #wastemanagement #recyclinginnovation #sustainablefashion #textilewaste #sortingtechnology #supplychain #logistics #manufacturing #industrialdesign #climatetech #epr #digitalproductpassport #retailinnovation #warehouseoperations #smartmanufacturing

Good to see this come together. We had an idea: get the right people in a room, stop talking in theory, and actually show what works. That’s what Carpet Day became. People brought real materials. We ran real scans. We had honest conversations about what’s broken and what’s possible. Huge thanks to everyone who showed up, shared insight, challenged things, and pushed it forward. The reality is simple: We don’t have a recycling problem. We have an identification problem. Once you know what a carpet is made of, everything changes. This video is a snapshot of the day. If you were there, you’ll recognise the energy. If you weren’t, this is what you missed. We’ll be doing more of these. If you want to be part of the next one, or want to see how this works in your own operation, get in touch or drop me a message. Let’s move this forward. #carpetrecycling #textilerecycling #circulareconomy #wastemanagement #recyclinginnovation #sustainability #materialscience #nirtechnology #sortingtechnology #wastereduction #recyclingsolutions #plasticsrecycling #textiles #carpets #innovation #greenbusiness #cleantech #sustainablefuture #resourceefficiency #zerowaste #recyclingindustry #wasteinnovation #environmentalimpact #circularity #recyclingtech #materials #wastetovalue #industrialinnovation

Most carpet doesn’t get recycled. It gets burned. Energy recovery sounds good. But let’s be honest — it’s still disposal. Carpet is made from valuable polymers: • PP • PET • Nylon Yet millions of tonnes go straight from homes → skip → incinerator. Why? Because we don’t identify the materials properly before they leave site. Recycling isn’t always about strategy or sustainability reports. Sometimes it’s simpler. If you separate the material properly, it stops being waste. On 19 March in London, we’re opening our lab and talking about the reality of carpet recycling with people actually working on it. What happens when carpet stops being waste and starts being feedstock? Come and see. #carpetrecycling #recyclingindustry #wastemanagement #circulareconomy #polymerrecycling #plasticrecycling #textilerecycling #wastetech #materialsrecovery #sustainability #recyclinginnovation #recyclingtechnology #wastereform #resourceefficiency #wastereduction #feedstock #sortingtechnology #nirtechnology #recyclingbusiness #greeninnovation #recyclinglab #flooringindustry #circularmaterials #wastestream #industrialrecycling

Collection is step one. Identification is step two. 🌊♻️ “Ocean plastic” sounds good. It sells products. It earns applause. It makes brands look responsible. But plastic doesn’t become circular just because it came from the sea. Sometimes "ocean plastic" hasn't ever seen the sea Fishing nets are not one material. They can be: PA6 (nylon) HDPE LDPE Sometimes even PET Mix them together and you destroy the value. Nylon and PE do not process together. That’s not an unpopular opinion. That’s polymer science. Call it “ocean plastic” if you want. But if you haven’t identified the polymer, you haven’t built a recycling system. You’ve built a narrative. Net waste is a serious contaminant in marine ecosystems. Separate it properly and you create real feedstock. Fail to separate it and you create downcycling with a halo. Feel-good labels don’t close the loop. Companies like @bracenet_savetheseas and @ecotribolife are just 2 companies who are making a real difference to our oceans #OceanPlastic #FishingNets #PlasticRecycling #PolymerScience #CircularEconomy #SustainabilityTruth #RecyclingReality #Greenwashing #NylonRecycling #HDPE #LDPE #PA6 #PETPlastic #MaterialScience #WasteManagement #CircularDesign #EnvironmentalImpact #OceanWaste #RecycledMaterials #ClimateActionNow #SustainableManufacturing #PlasticPollution #CleanSeas #IndustrialRecycling #CircularFuture

On 19 March we’re opening our London doors for a focused morning on carpet recovery, fibre identification and practical recycling solutions. You’ll hear from people actually building working systems, not just talking about them. Joseph Eccleston – Innovate Recycle Creating real polypropylene carpet demand and proving that recovery only scales when the downstream market exists. Cathie Clarke – UKSFA / TakeMyFlooring Driving responsible flooring collection and helping retailers and contractors handle post-consumer carpet properly. Mike Thompson – BluSkyReform Turning needle punch polyester carpet into a circular solution that works commercially. James Kay – Resource Efficiency Wales Sharing the data behind carpet waste and what it really takes to make recycling cost-effective. If you work in flooring, waste management, local authority recycling or manufacturing — this is the room to be in. Bring samples. Ask hard questions. Meet the people building the recovery network. 📍 London – near the Oval 🗓 19 March 2026 🕘 Morning session + lunch Register via the link in bio. #CarpetRecycling #CarpetWaste #FlooringIndustry #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #TextileRecycling #WasteManagement #ResourceEfficiency #RecyclingInnovation #Polypropylene #Polyester #MaterialIdentification #NIRTechnology #GreenBusiness #EnvironmentalLeadership #LocalAuthority #Manufacturing #RecycledMaterials #ZeroWaste #ESG #SustainableFlooring #InnovationInRecycling #LondonEvents #IndustryEvent #Matoha

Sorting carpet properly changes the economics of flooring waste. On 19 March we will open the doors at our London space near the Oval and run a live demo of CarpetTell — our handheld carpet identification system built for recyclers, flooring contractors and HWRC operators. You are welcome to bring your own samples. Nylon. PP. PET. Blends. Backings that look identical to the eye but will tell a different story under NIR. When you identify fibre correctly at the front end: • You reduce contamination • You protect downstream value • You cut handling time • You build confidence with buyers The tech is only useful if it solves a real problem. Seeing people test it hands-on proves the point. If you sort carpet — or struggle with it — what’s your biggest bottleneck right now? Fibre ID? Markets? Labour? DM or comment carpets for the invite link #CarpetRecycling #FlooringRecycling #TextileRecycling #CircularEconomy #WasteManagement #RecyclingTechnology #NIR #MaterialIdentification #Sustainability #ResourceRecovery #ClosedLoop #RecyclingInnovation #UKRecycling #LondonEvents #CarpetWaste #ConstructionWaste #HWRC #Polypropylene #Nylon #PET #GreenBuilding #ESG #SortingTechnology #RecyclingIndustry #Matoha

Carpet recycling fails or succeeds at one point: fiber type. Mix nylon with polypropylene and you downgrade the whole bale. Send wool into a plastics stream and you lose value fast. Miss PVC backing and you risk damaging equipment. Sorting properly changes the economics: • Higher resale value • Cleaner output streams • Fewer rejected loads • Lower processing risk • Faster decisions on the line We’ve just spent time testing our newest carpet-scanning tech across a wide mix of materials. Real samples. Real contamination. Real-world speed. If you handle carpet waste, fiber sorting isn’t a nice-to-have. It’s the difference between profit and landfill. Open day in London soon. Bring samples. Stress-test the system. See what it does in minutes. Comment carpet or DM me for details. #carpetrecycling #wasterecycling #circulareconomy #flooringindustry #recyclingtechnology #sustainabilityinbusiness #nylonrecycling #plasticsrecycling #textilerecycling #constructionwaste #recyclingsolutions #wastemanagement #materialsorting #greenindustry #recyclinginnovation #environmentaltech #resourceefficiency #closedloop #sustainablematerials #industrialrecycling #ukrecycling #euwaste #carpetwaste #supplychain #recycledmaterials

Carpet isn’t one material. It can be nylon 6, nylon 6.6, polypropylene, polyester, wool — sometimes layered, sometimes backed with latex or bitumen, sometimes blended in ways that make sorting slow, expensive, and risky. That complexity is exactly why so much carpet still goes to landfill. You can’t recycle what you can’t identify. Our newest carpet-focused device removes the guesswork. Scan. Know the polymer. Make the right call before it hits the wrong stream. Recyclers don’t fail because they lack intent. They fail when feedstock stays unknown, when loads contaminate lines, when buyers reject bales, when margins disappear. Real recycling starts upstream — with fast, reliable material identification. Carpet should be one of the easiest waste streams to recover: • Huge volumes • Consistent product families • High-value polymers when separated correctly • Growing demand for recycled nylon and PP Get the ID right, and the rest of the system finally works. We build tools for operators, sorters, processors, and brands who deal with carpet every day — not from a lab bench, but from real facilities under commercial pressure. If you want circular flooring, start with certainty. ♻️ #carpetrecycling #flooringrecycling #circulareconomy #textilerecycling #wastetech #recyclinginnovation #nylonrecycling #pprecycling #polymerid #materialscience #sustainabilitytech #wastemanagement #recyclingindustry #circularmaterials #postconsumer #recyclingsolutions #carpetwaste #greenindustry #recycledmaterials #closedloop #sortingtechnology #environmentaltech #sustainableflooring #plasticsrecycling #matoha

One of my favourite moments from @icfexpo was this. 👇 We handed someone the carpet scanner and asked them to have a go. No training. No prep. No warm-up. Just a quick bit of guidance. Point it. Press the button. Read the result. And that was it. They were away. This matters. A lot. Most recycling technology looks great on a stand and falls apart on the floor. It assumes trained staff, perfect lighting, endless patience, and someone who enjoys reading manuals. Real life doesn’t work like that. On a busy show floor, with noise, distractions, and zero context, this still worked. That’s the test. If someone can pick it up cold and get value immediately, you’re onto something. 🎯 For carpets especially, speed and simplicity are everything. If material ID slows people down, it won’t be used. If it feels intimidating, it gets parked in a drawer. This didn’t. It just worked. ♻️ #carpetrecycling #textilerecycling #recyclingtechnology #circulareconomy #sustainability #smartsorting #materialidentification #nirtechnology #recyclinginnovation #carpetindustry #flooringindustry #wastereduction #resourcemanagement #recycledmaterials #postconsumerwaste #recyclingmadeeasy #industrialdesign #manufacturing #tradeexpo #icfexpo #istanbul #textiletech #cleantech #practicalinnovation #futureofrecycling

I love when customers send videos like this 🔥 This setup from @hivedesign_eu for @urda_dtp shows exactly why hands-on learning hits different. “The team are very happy with both units… they’re now part of our regular lectures on waste, plastic resources and textiles.” Students aren’t just listening. They’re testing. Guessing. Getting surprised. And suddenly… recycling makes sense. So let me ask you: 🤯 Would you trust your guess over the scanner? ♻️ Should every school teach waste with real materials, not slides? 👀 What item do you think students misidentify the most? 💬 Tell me your pick — I’ll test it. Huge thanks to Karina Vītina and the Hive team for building a space that actually changes how people think 🌍✨ #RecyclingEducation #CircularEconomy #SustainabilityTech #PlasticsRecycling #WasteManagement #EnvironmentalEducation #STEMlearning #HandsOnLearning #FutureSkills #NIRScanner #TextileRecycling #PlasticScanner #InnovativeTeaching #TeachTheFuture #EdTechInnovation #SustainableDesign #EcoAwareness #GreenTech #RecyclingInnovation #SustainableFuture #CleanTech #SciComm #ClimateEducation #LearningByDoing #MaterialScience #ZeroWasteWorld #EcoInspiration
