❖About the artwork
The series L'image manquante seeks to fill the gaps left by major contemporary myths or personal mythologies for which no image exists.
In a society saturated with images, painting can create a counter-image and take on the role of representing our world.
Historically, painting has depicted battles, coronations, weddings, resurrections, hells, and paradises. The artist, often absent, recreated these events from his imagination.
The first group of paintings by Mathieu Weiler depicts the end of Elvis Presley.
The second group portrays the relationship between Valerie Solanas and Andy Warhol.
This series blends the tragic, the humorous, the grandiose, and the derisory.
