Instagram has abandoned those of us who are passionate about photography and try to build a community around it, and turned itself into just another platform for short, addictive video clips. For the time being, I'll continue using Instagram, albeit more sporadically and mainly as a way to stay in touch with you all, but like many others, I'm looking into alternative spaces to share my work and engage with fellow artists and those interested in photography.
My Tumblr blog was originally started in 2014, but I decided to delete the old content and begin from scratch, starting with a series of my "classic" street shots from the last few years. Tumblr provides more space and tools to share context and additional information that some of you might find useful and insightful.
I hope you'll join the ride on Tumblr, and I'm looking forward to connecting. You'll find me searching for 'mathiaswasik' on Tumblr (or through the link in my story).
I'll also look into other alternative platforms in the next few days and weeks, and please let me know if you have any suggestions for spaces that are more welcoming to photographers than IG.

Sineu’s Wednesday market has been running since the 13th century. It’s set beautifully in the old streets of the town and attracts locals and visitors alike. A great opportunity to dive into the crowds and get close to my subjects with my GR.

Meet our GR ambassador, Mathias Wasik!
Mathias Wasik is a street and documentary photographer based in the United States and a member of the NYC Street Photography Collective (NYC-SPC). Born in Poland and raised in Germany, he has lived and worked in Berlin, New York City, and now Santa Fe, New Mexico. His work focuses on everyday life in cities, exploring how people move through public space and how fleeting moments can reveal broader social and emotional truths.
Over the past decade, Mathias has photographed extensively on the streets of New York and internationally. His work has appeared in publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, National Geographic, and NPR, and has been exhibited at festivals and galleries in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Alongside his editorial practice, he has completed commercial assignments and licensing work for clients across fashion, entertainment, travel, and real estate, including Chanel, the New York City Marathon, Airbnb, JetBlue, and others. He remains deeply engaged in photographic communities, regularly teaching, mentoring, and serving as a judge for international street photography festivals.
