Took a walk the other day and realized that exploring nature isn’t all that different from the work I do mixing music. The technical side is such a small piece, so much of my process is about discovery, navigating the arrangement, and finding new ways to connect with a song. The best moments always come from exploring.
Often my most powerful tool in the arsenal….stepping away. Don’t get me wrong, spending an hour or two making tweaks to the snare or fiddling with reverb is sometimes necessary. But I have found more times than not taking a step back and gaining some perspective gives me more clarity on a mix than any high end monitor will ever do.
